Claims
- 1. A method for insulating an undersink drain piping assembly pipe section with opposite ends comprising:
- protecting the ends of said pipe section;
- applying a layer of liquified insulation material to the heated pipe section to cover generally the entire pipe section;
- curing the material layer until the layer hardens to form an insulative cover layer on the pipe section; and
- removing the protection from the ends of the pipe section to provide an insulated pipe section ready for installation into a drain piping assembly beneath a sink which has an insulative cover layer generally free from slits and openings to prevent dirt and contaminants from accumulating on the pipe section and cover layer.
- 2. The method of claim 1 further comprising the step of maintaining said pipe section in a temperature range of approximately 100.degree. F. to 750.degree. F. before applying the liquified insulation material.
- 3. The method of claim 1 wherein the step of applying the insulation material includes dipping the pipe section within a container of liquified insulation material.
- 4. The method of claim 1 wherein the step of applying the insulation material includes spraying the pipe section with the liquified insulation material.
- 5. The method of claim 1 wherein one of the ends of the pipe section includes threads for connecting the section within an undersink drain piping assembly, the method further comprising the step of covering the threads when sealing the pipe section ends to prevent application of insulation material on the threads.
- 6. The method of claim 1 wherein the step of sealing the ends of the pipe section includes securing a cap to at least one of the ends, the cap having a larger diameter than the pipe section end such that the cap forms a collar in the insulative cover layer at the pipe section end.
- 7. The method of claim 1 further comprising inverting the pipe section such that liquified material which drips from the pipe section drips from an end of the pipe section.
