Claims
- 1. A method for providing a decorative covering and a protective covering comprising:
- providing a sheet of material having an upper surface, a lower surface and an outer peripheral edge, a sheet extension being connected to the sheet of material and the sheet extension extending a distance outwardly from the outer peripheral edge of the sheet of material and the sheet of material having a connecting bonding material disposed thereon in a discrete predetermined position;
- providing a flower pot having an upper end, a lower end, an outer peripheral surface and an opening extending through the upper end of the flower pot providing access to a retaining space with the flower pot having an inner peripheral surface encompassing a substantial portion of the retaining space and the flower pot having a bottom formed near the lower end of the flower pot, the flower pot having a floral grouping disposed in the retaining space and extending a distance upwardly beyond the upper end of the flower pot;
- forming the sheet of material about the flower pot to a position wherein the sheet of material extends about a substantial portion of the outer peripheral surface of the flower pot to provide the decorative covering and wherein the connecting bonding material on the sheet of material is disposed above the upper end of the flower pot and forming the sheet extension about the floral grouping to a position wherein the sheet extension covers a substantial portion of the floral grouping to provide the protective covering; and
- forming a crimped portion in a portion of the sheet of material by crimping the portion of the sheet of material having the connecting bonding material thereon to form a plurality of overlapping folds with the connecting bonding material bondingly engaging adjacent portions of the sheet of material for bondingly connecting said adjacent portions of the sheet of material whereby the overlapping folds cooperate to form the crimped portion with the crimped portion cooperating to hold the sheet of material in the form of the decorative covering extending about the flower pot with the sheet extension providing the protective covering for the floral grouping.
- 2. The method of claim 1 wherein the crimped portion is defined further as extending circumferentially about the upper end of the flower pot.
- 3. The method of claim 1 wherein the step of providing the sheet of material is defined further as providing the sheet of material with the connecting bonding material being spaced a distance from the outer peripheral edge of the sheet of material and extending circumferentially about a portion of the sheet of material.
- 4. A method for forming a decorative covering and a protective covering comprising:
- providing the sheet of material having an upper surface, a lower surface and an outer peripheral edge, a connecting bonding material being disposed on the sheet of material, a sheet extension being connected to the sheet of material and the sheet extension extending a distance outwardly from the outer peripheral edge of the sheet of material;
- providing a flower pot having an upper end, a lower end, an outer peripheral surface and an opening extending through the upper end providing access to a retaining space with the flower pot having an inner peripheral surface encompassing a substantial portion of the retaining space and the flower pot having a bottom formed near the lower end of the flower pot, the flower pot having a floral grouping disposed in the retaining space and extending a distance upwardly beyond the upper end of the flower pot;
- forming the sheet of material about the flower pot to a position wherein the sheet of material extends about substantially the entire outer peripheral surface of the flower pot to form the decorative covering with a portion of the sheet of material near the outer peripheral edge thereof extending a distance above the upper end of the flower pot with the portion of the sheet of material having the connecting bonding material disposed thereon being disposed above the upper end of the flower pot and forming the sheet extension about the floral grouping to a position wherein the sheet extension covers a substantial portion of the floral grouping to provide the protective covering;
- crimping the portion of the sheet of material having the connecting bonding material thereon to form a crimped portion in the sheet of material at a position above the upper end of the flower pot for cooperating to hold the sheet of material in the form of the decorative covering extending about the flower pot with the crimped portion extending a distance radially inwardly toward a central portion of the flower pot forming a ridge portion.
- 5. The method of claim 4 wherein the step of forming the sheet of material about the flower pot is defined further as forming the sheet of material about the flower pot to a position wherein a portion of the sheet of material near the outer peripheral edge thereof extends a distance above the upper end of the flower pot, and wherein the step of forming the crimped portion is defined further as forming the crimped portion in the portion of the sheet of material extending above the upper end of the flower pot.
- 6. The method of claim 4 wherein the step of providing the sheet of material is defined further as providing a sheet of material with the sheet extension connected thereto and having a line of perforations between the sheet of material and the sheet extension, and wherein the method is defined further as comprising:
- tearing along the line of perforations to separate the sheet extension from the sheet of material to remove the protective covering from the floral grouping.
- 7. The method of claim 4 wherein the step of providing the sheet of material with the sheet extension connected thereto further comprising providing the sheet of material with the sheet extension connected thereto and with the sheet extension extending about substantially the entire outer peripheral edge of the sheet of material, the sheet extension extending the distance outwardly from the outer peripheral edge of the sheet of material terminating with an outer peripheral edge of the sheet extension, the sheet extension having an upper surface and a lower surface, the upper surface of the sheet extension being disposed in a plane about coplanar with the upper surface of the sheet of material and the lower surface of the sheet extension being disposed in a plane about coplanar with the lower surface of the sheet of material.
- 8. The method of claim 4 wherein the step of providing the sheet of material with the sheet extension connected thereto further comprises providing the sheet of material with the sheet extension connected thereto and with the sheet extension extending the distance outwardly from the outer peripheral edge of the sheet of material terminating with an outer peripheral surface of the sheet extension, and wherein the step of forming the sheet extension about the floral grouping further comprises forming the sheet extension about the floral grouping to position wherein the sheet extension covers the substantial portion of the floral grouping and a portion of the sheet extension extends above the floral grouping terminating with the outer peripheral edge of the sheet extension forming an open upper end of the protective covering, and wherein the method further comprises:
- closing the open upper end of the protective covering.
- 9. The method of claim 8 wherein the step of providing the sheet of material with the sheet extension connected thereto further comprises the sheet of material with the sheet extension connected thereto and with the sheet extension having a connecting bonding material disposed thereon, and wherein the step of closing the open upper end of the protective covering further comprises:
- bringing portions of the sheet extension having the connecting bonding material thereon into bonding engagement with adjacent portions of the sheet extension for bondingly connecting the adjacent portions of the sheet extension and closing the open upper end of the protective covering.
- 10. The method of claim 8 wherein the step of providing the sheet of material with the sheet extension connected thereto further comprises providing the sheet of material with the sheet extension connected thereto and with a drawstring connected to the sheet extension, and wherein the step of closing the open upper end of the protective covering further comprises:
- pulling the drawstring on the sheet extension to close the open upper end of the protective covering.
- 11. The method of claim 8 wherein the step of providing the sheet of material with the sheet extension connected thereto further comprises providing the sheet of material with the sheet extension connected thereto and with reinforcing means being connected to the sheet extension, and wherein the step of closing the open upper end of the protective covering further comprises:
- crimping the portion of the sheet extension with the reinforcing means disposed therein together to close the open upper end of the protective covering.
- 12. The method of claim 8 wherein the step of providing the sheet of material with the sheet extension connected thereto further comprises providing the sheet of material with the sheet extension connected thereto and with a ribbon connected to the sheet extension, and wherein the step of closing the open upper end of the protective covering further comprises:
- pulling the ribbon on the sheet extension to close the open upper end of the protective covering.
- 13. The method of claim 4 wherein the step of forming the crimped portion is defined further as forming the crimped portion in the sheet of material with the crimped portion extending a distance radially inwardly toward a central portion of the flower pot forming a ridge portion, the crimped portion extending circumferentially about the upper end of the flower pot and the ridge portion extending circumferentially about the upper end of the flower pot.
- 14. The method of claim 4 wherein the step of forming the crimped portion is defined further as forming a plurality of overlapping folds in a portion of the portion of the sheet extending above the upper end of the flower pot with the overlapping folds cooperating to form the crimped portion.
- 15. The method of claim 14 wherein the step of forming the overlapping folds is defined further as forming the overlapping folds with a portion of the sheet of material having the overlapping folds therein extending circumferentially about the upper end of the flower pot.
- 16. The method of claim 4 wherein the step of providing the sheet of material is defined further as providing the sheet of material with the connecting bonding material disposed on the sheet of material and extending circumferentially about the sheet of material with the connecting bonding material being spaced a distance from the outer peripheral surface of the sheet of material, and wherein the step of forming the crimped portion in the sheet of material is defined further as forming the crimped portion in the sheet of material with the crimped portion extending circumferentially about the upper end of the flower pot.
- 17. The method of claim 4 wherein the step of forming the sheet of material about the flower pot is defined further as comprising:
- disposing the flower pot on the upper surface of the sheet of material with the bottom of the flower pot being disposed adjacent a portion of the sheet of material; and
- forming the sheet of material about the flower pot to a position wherein the sheet of material extends about substantially the entire outer peripheral surface of the flower pot.
- 18. The method of claim 17 wherein the step of providing the sheet of material is defined further as providing the sheet of material with the connecting bonding material disposed on the upper surface of the sheet of material.
- 19. The method of claim 17 wherein the step of providing the sheet of material is defined further as providing the sheet of material with the connecting bonding material disposed on the lower surface of the sheet of material.
- 20. The method of claim 4 wherein the step of providing the sheet of material is defined further as providing the sheet of material with the connecting bonding material being a pressure sensitive adhesive.
- 21. The method of claim 4 wherein the step of providing the sheet of material is defined further as providing the sheet of material with the connecting bonding material being a cohesive.
- 22. The method of claim 4 wherein the step of providing the sheet of material is defined further as providing the sheet of material with a pot connecting bonding material on a portion of the sheet of material, and wherein the step of forming the sheet of material about the flower pot is defined further as forming the sheet of material about the flower pot to a position wherein a portion of the sheet of material having the pot connecting bonding material is disposed adjacent a portion of the outer peripheral surface of the flower pot with the pot connecting bonding material being brought into bonding engagement with and bondingly connected to a portion of the outer peripheral surface of the flower pot.
- 23. The method of claim 22 wherein the step of forming the sheet of material about the flower pot is defined further as forming the sheet of material about the flower pot to a position wherein the portion of the sheet of material having the pot connecting bonding material thereon is disposed adjacent a portion of the outer peripheral edge of the flower pot near the upper end of the flower pot for bondingly connecting a portion of the sheet of material to the outer peripheral surface to the flower pot near the upper end of the flower pot.
- 24. The method of claim 4 wherein the step of providing the sheet of material is defined further as providing the sheet of material with a pot connecting bonding material disposed thereon with the pot connecting bonding materials extending radially inwardly and spaced circumferentially a distance apart, and wherein the step of forming the sheet of material about the flower pot is defined further as forming the sheet of material about the flower pot to a position wherein the portions of the sheet of material having the pot connecting bonding material disposed thereon are positioned in engagement with portions of the outer peripheral surface of the flower pot for bondingly connecting portions of the sheet of material to the flower pot by way of the pot connecting bonding material disposed on the sheet of material.
- 25. The method of claim 4 wherein the step of providing the sheet of material is defined further as providing the sheet of material with a pot connecting bonding material disposed thereon with the pot connecting bonding material disposed in discrete areas, each extending radially inwardly and spaced circumferentially a distance apart, and wherein the step of forming the sheet of material about the flower pot is defined further as forming the sheet of material about the flower pot to a position wherein the portions of the sheet of material having the areas of the pot connecting bonding material disposed thereon are positioned in engagement with portions of the outer peripheral surface of the flower pot for bondingly connecting the portions of the sheet of material to the flower pot, each area of pot connecting bonding material being bondingly connected to a portion of the flower pot forming a connected portion with each connected portion extending between the upper and the lower ends of the flower pot, and the spaces between each of the areas of the pot connecting bonding material not being bondingly connected to the outer peripheral surface of the flower pot forming unconnected portions with each of the unconnected portions being disposed between two adjacent connected portions.
- 26. The method of claim 4 wherein the step of providing the sheet of material is defined further as providing the sheet of material having a thickness in a range from about 0.1 mils to about 30 mils.
- 27. The method of claim 4 wherein the step of providing the sheet of material as defined further as providing the sheet of material having a thickness in a range from about 0.1 mils to about 5 mils.
- 28. The method of claim 4 wherein the step of providing the sheet of material is defined further as comprising:
- providing a roll of material;
- unrolling a portion of the material from the roll of material; and
- cutting a portion of the material unrolled from the roll of material to separate the sheet of material from the roll of material.
- 29. The method of claim 4 wherein the step of providing the sheet of material is defined further as providing a pad containing a plurality of sheets of material.
- 30. The method of claim 4 wherein the step of providing the sheet of material is defined further as comprising:
- providing a roll of material, the roll of material having a plurality of spaced apart lines of perforations with the material in the roll of material between the spaced apart lines of perforations forming the sheet of material; and
- tearing the sheet of material from the roll of material by tearing the material along one of the lines of perforations.
- 31. The method of claim 4 wherein the sheet of material is circularly shaped.
