Claims
- 1. A composition comprising a crystalline colloidal array of charged particles in a medium wherein said particles undergo volume phase transition in response to temperature changes.
- 2. The composition according to claim 1 wherein said particles are selected from the group consisting of poly (N-isopropylacrylamide) particles and poly (N-tert-butylacrylamide) particles.
- 3. The composition according to claim 1 wherein the medium is water.
- 4. The composition according to claim 1 wherein a photo-absorptive dye is attached to said particles.
- 5. A composition comprising a crystalline colloidal array of charged particles polymerized in a hydrogel, such that the hydrogel undergoes a volume phase transition in response to temperature changes.
- 6. The composition according to claim 5 wherein the charged particles are selected from the group consisting of polystyrene, polymethyl-methacrylate, silicon dioxide, aluminum oxide, and polytetra-fluoroethylene.
- 7. The composition according to claim 6 wherein the hydrogel is selected from the group consisting of poly (N-isopropylacrylamide) hydrogel and poly (N-tert-butylacrylamide) particles.
- 8. The composition according to claim 5 wherein said composition has gel pores and interstitial pores, which interstitial pores change in size with changes in temperature.
- 9. A composition comprising a crystalline colloidal array of charged particles in a medium wherein said particles undergo a volume phase transition in response to changes in solvent.
- 10. A composition comprising a crystalline colloidal array of charged particles polymerized in a hydrogel, such that the hydrogel undergoes a volume phase transition in response to changes in solvent.
