Claims
- 1. A synthetic crystalline aluminosilicate zeolite having a composition in the anhydrous state, expressed in terms of mole ratios of oxides as follows:
- (0.3-2.5)R.sub.2 O : (0-0.8)M.sub.2 O : Al.sub.2 O.sub.3 : > 8 SiO.sub.2
- wherein R is an organic nitrogen-containing cation derived from a 2-(hydroxyalkyl)trialkylammonium compound and M is an alkali metal cation and having an X-ray powder diffraction pattern substantially the same as that shown in Table 1A of the specification, the sorption capacity of said zeolite after calcination at 600.degree. C being characterized by the ratio of normal hexane sorption to 2-methylpentane sorption at 90.degree. C of less than 10.
- 2. A synthetic crystalline aluminosilicate zeolite according to claim 1 having a composition in the anhydrous state, expressed in terms of mole ratios of oxides as follows:
- (0.4-2.5)R.sub.2 O : (0-0.6)M.sub.2 O : Al.sub.2 O.sub.3 : x SiO.sub.2
- wherein x is from greater than 8 to about 50.
- 3. A synthetic crystalline aluminosilicate zeolite according to claim 1 wherein R is the organic cation derived from a 2-(hydroxyalkyl)trialkylammonium compound, wherein alkyl is methyl or ethyl or a combination thereof.
- 4. A synthetic crystalline aluminosilicate zeolite according to claim 3 wherein R is the organic nitrogen-containing cation derived from 2-(hydroxyethyl)trimethylammonium chloride.
- 5. A synthetic crystalline aluminosilicate zeolite according to claim 1 wherein M is sodium.
- 6. A synthetic crystalline aluminosilicate zeolite according to claim 3 wherein M is sodium.
- 7. A method for preparing the crystalline aluminosilicate zeolite defined in claim 1 which comprises preparing a mixture containing sources of an alkali metal oxide, an organic nitrogen-containing oxide, an oxide of aluminum, an oxide of silicon and water and having a composition, in terms of mole ratios of oxides, falling within the following ranges:
- ______________________________________ ##STR20## 0.2-1.0OH.sup.-/SiO.sub.2 0.05-0.5H.sub.2 O/OH.sup.- 41-500SiO.sub.2 /Al.sub.2 O.sub.3 8.8-200______________________________________
- wherein R is an organic nitrogen-containing cation derived from a 2-(hydroxyalkyl)trialkylammonium compound and M is an alkali metal ion, maintaining the mixture at a temperature of at least 90.degree. F until the crystals of said aluminosilicate are formed.
- 8. The method of claim 7 wherein the mixture has a composition, in terms of mole ratios of oxides, falling within the following ranges:
- ______________________________________ ##STR21## 0.3-0.9OH.sup.-/SiO.sub.2 0.07-0.49H.sub.2 O/OH.sup.- 100-250SiO.sub.2 /Al.sub.2 O.sub.3 12-60.______________________________________
- 9. The method according to claim 7 wherein the temperature is maintained between about 90.degree. F and about 400.degree. F.
- 10. The method according to claim 8 wherein the temperature is maintained between about 150.degree. and about 400.degree. F.
- 11. A synthetic crystalline aluminosilicate zeolite comprising the zeolite of claim 1 having its original cations replaced, at least in part, by ion exchange with a cation or a mixture of cations selected from the group consisting of hydrogen and hydrogen precursors, rare earth metals, aluminum, and metals from Groups IIA, IIIA, IVA, IB, IIB, IIIB, IVB, VIB, and VIII of the Periodic Table of the Elements.
- 12. The synthetic crystalline aluminosilicate zeolite of claim 11 wherein said replacing cation is hydrogen or a hydrogen precursor.
- 13. The synthetic crystalline aluminosilicate zeolite resulting from thermal treatment of the composition of claim 1.
- 14. The synthetic crystalline aluminosilicate zeolite resulting from thermal treatment of the composition of claim 2.
- 15. The synthetic crystalline aluminosilicate zeolite resulting from thermal treatment of the composition of claim 3.
- 16. The synthetic crystalline aluminosilicate zeolite resulting from thermal treatment of the composition of claim 4.
- 17. The synthetic crystalline aluminosilicate zeolite resulting from thermal treatment of the composition of claim 5.
- 18. The synthetic crystalline aluminosilicate zeolite resulting from thermal treatment of the composition of claim 6.
- 19. The synthetic crystalline aluminsilicate zeolite resulting from heating the composition of claim 11 at a temperature of from about 500.degree. to about 1500.degree. F.
- 20. The synthetic crystalline aluminosilicate zeolite resulting from heating the composition of claim 12 at a temperature from about 500.degree. to about 1500.degree. F.
