Claims
- 1. An apparatus for holding a circular band to form a cuff, said apparatus comprising:
- (a) a holding fixture for recieving and holding the circular band in an open position, said holding fixture including a part of generally cylindrical fingers insertable in the circular band, said fingers being movable between a closed position to facilitate insertion of the fingers in to said circular band and an expanded position in which the fingers are spread apart from one another to stretch the circular band; and
- (b) gripping means formed in said fingers for gripping the circular band between the ends thereof, wherein said gripping means includes a pair of opposed co-linear cylinders.
- 2. The apparatus according to claim 1, wherein the holding fixture includes a pair of generally cylindrical fingers insertable in the circular band, said fingers being movable between a closed position to facilitate insertion of the fingers into said circular band and an expanded position in which the fingers are spread apart from one another to stretch the circular band.
- 3. The apparatus according to claim 2, wherein said holding fixture further includes gripping means formed on said pair of fingers for gripping the circular band between the ends thereof.
- 4. The apparatus according to claim 3, wherein said gripping means includes first and second cylindrical portions which are movable relative to one another between a clamping position and a release position, and wherein the circular band is gripped between the first and second cylindrical portions when the cylindrical portions are in the clamping position.
- 5. The apparatus according to claim 4, wherein the first and second cylindrical portions are movable in an axial direction relative to one another.
- 6. A method for holding a circular band to form a cuff, providing a holding fixture including a pair of generally cylindrical finger insertable in the circular band, said fingers being movable between a closed position and an expanded position in which the fingers are spread apart from one another and gripping means formed in said fingers for gripping the circular band between the code thereof, wherein said gripping means in includes a pair of opposed co-linear cylinders; said method comprising the steps of:
- (a) receiving and holding the circular band in an open position in a holding fixture; and
- (b) gripping the circular band between the ends thereof by gripping means formed in said pair of co-linear cylinders of each finger.
