Abstract

A cup lid includes a cup lid body defining a top wall, an annular coupling portion around the top wall for fastening to a rim of a disposable cup and a drinking port located on the top wall, and an advertisement carrier made in the form of a sheet and attached to the top wall of the cup lid body and carrying an advertising design of a pattern, graphic device, logo and/or product blurb.

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION

1. Field of the Invention

The present invention relates to a lip for a disposable cup and more particularly, to a cup lip with an advertisement carrier.

2. Description of the Related Art

Commercial disposable beverage cups may have an advertisement printed on the periphery of the cup body thereof. It is a pity that nobody designs an advertisement on a cup lid for disposable beverage cup. When a store assistant or serviceman is offering a beverage cup to a consumer, the consumer's vision firstly reaches the top side of the cup lid. The top side of the cup lid is the best eye-catching spot. Installing an advertisement in this location achieves the best advertising effect.

SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION

The present invention has been accomplished under the circumstances in view. It is the main object of the present invention to provide a cup lid with an advertisement carrier, which allows arrangement of an advertisement on the top wall of the cup lid body, enabling the advertisement to reach the most eye-catching effect

To achieve this and other objects of the present invention, a cup lid with an advertisement carrier comprises a cup lid body and an advertisement carrier. The cup lid body comprises a top wall, an annular coupling portion extending around the top wall for fastening to a rim of a disposable cup, and a drinking port located on the top wall. The advertisement carrier is made in the form of a sheet and attached to the top wall of the cup lid body. Further, the advertisement carrier carries an advertising design of a pattern, graphic device, logo and/or product blurb.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION

Referring to FIGS. 1-3, a cup lid with an advertisement carrier in accordance with a first embodiment of the present invention is shown. The cup lid, referenced by 10, comprises a cup lid body 10 and an advertisement carrier 20.

The cup lid body 10 comprises a top wall 11, an annular coupling flange 12 disposed around the top wall 11 for clipping a rim of a disposable beverage cup (not shown), and a drinking port 13 located on a part of the top wall 11.

The advertisement carrier 20 is a sheet member attached to the top wall 11 of the cup lid body 10, carrying an advertisement design that can be a pattern, graphic device or product blurb.

The cup lid body 10 is made from plastic injection molding, comprising two upright pins 14 upwardly protruded from the top wall 11. The advertisement carrier 20 comprises two mounting through holes 21 respectively disposed corresponding to the two upright pins 14. The two upright pins 14 are respectively press-fitted into the two mounting through holes 21. Further, the number of the upright pins 14 and the number of the mounting through holes 21 can be more than 2, for example, 3 or 4.

FIGS. 4-6 illustrate a cup lid with an advertisement carrier in accordance with a second embodiment of the present invention. The cup lid in accordance with this second embodiment also comprises a cup lid body 30 and an advertisement carrier 40. The cup lid body 30 defines a mounting recess 31 on the middle of the top wall thereof. The advertisement carrier 40 is press-fitted into the mounting recess 31.

FIGS. 7-9 illustrate a cup lid with an advertisement carrier in accordance with a third embodiment of the present invention. The cup lid in accordance with this third embodiment also comprises a cup lid body 50 and an advertisement carrier 60. The cup lid body 50 defines a circular platform 51 and a mounting recess 52 formed in the circular platform 51. The advertisement carrier 60 is press-fitted into the mounting recess 52.

Further, the upright pins and mounting through holes of the aforesaid first embodiment can also be employed to the aforesaid second or third embodiment, i.e., cup lid body 30;50 can be made from plastic injection molding and having a plurality of upright pins upwardly disposed in the mounting recess 31;52, and the advertisement carrier 40;60 can have mounting through holes respectively fastenable to the upright pins of the cup lid body 30;50.

The advertisement carrier in accordance with the present invention is a sheet member made from plastics or paper and having a certain thickness, and therefore the advertisement carrier has a certain strength and can be forced into engagement with the cup lid body. Further, the advertisement carrier 60 in accordance with the aforesaid third embodiment has a corrugated (or serrated) peripheral edge, facilitating engagement between the advertisement carrier 60 and the mounting recess 52.

Further, the advertisement carrier in accordance with the present invention can be a sheet member made from plastics or paper, and printed with a pattern, graphic device, logo and/or product blurb, and then cut into the desired shape. For example, a movie-film producer can join a movie advertisement to beverage cup lids for beverage cups to be used in convenience stores or chain coffee shops by means of advertisement carriers. Thus, the movie advertisement can be rapidly spread out within a short period of time. When the movie release schedule is up or the distribution of the beverage cup lids with respective advertisement carriers reaches a predetermined volume, this advertising activity can be ended, and the convenience stores or chain coffee shops can use beverage cup lids without advertisement carrier for beverage cups without affecting normal conduction of business or leaving unused advertising cup lids. It is indeed a win-win choice between advertising agency and beverage distributor.

FIGS. 10 and 11 illustrate a cup lid with an advertisement carrier in accordance with a fourth embodiment of the present invention. The cup lid in accordance with this fourth embodiment also comprises a cup lid body 70 and an advertisement carrier 80. The cup lid body 70 is a circular member for covering a disposable cup for cold beverage, comprising a surface 71, an annular platform 72 extending around the surface 71, a coupling flange 73 extending around the annular platform 72 for fastening to a rim of a disposable beverage cup (not shown), a drinking port 74 located on the annular platform 72, and a female retaining means 75. In this fourth embodiment, the female retaining means 75 comprises three dovetail grooves equiangularly located on the annular platform 72 and abutted against the surface 71; the drinking port 74 is made in the form of a circular flap connected to the cup lid body 70 by a tearable line or discontinuous slit for the insertion of a straw pipe.

The advertisement carrier 80 can be a plastic sheet member or plastic laminated paper sheet member configured subject to the configuration of the surface 71 of the cup lid body 70, comprising a male retaining means 81 corresponding to the female retaining means 75 of the cup lid body 70. In this embodiment, the male retaining means 81 comprises three dovetail lugs equiangularly spaced around the border of the advertisement carrier 80 for engagement with the dovetail grooves of the female retaining means 75 of the cup lid body 70. Further, the advertisement carrier 80 carries an advertisement design, such as pattern, graphic device, logo and/or product blurb on the top side thereof.

The advertisement carrier 80 is attached to the surface 71 of the cup lid body 70 to force the dovetail lugs 81 into the respective dovetail grooves 75 of the cup lid body 70. Further, the grooves of the female retaining means 75 and the lugs of the male retaining means 81 can be made in a triangular, mushroom head-like or oval shape instead of dovetail design.

FIGS. 12 and 13 illustrate a cup lid with an advertisement carrier in accordance with a fifth embodiment of the present invention. The cup lid in accordance with this fifth embodiment also comprises a cup lid body 90 and an advertisement carrier 100. The cup lid body 90 is a circular member for covering a disposable cup for hot beverage, comprising a surface 91, an annular platform 92 extending around the surface 91, a downward coupling flange 93 extending around the annular platform 92 for fastening to a rim of a beverage cup (not shown), a drinking port 94 located on the annular platform 92, an insertion recess 95 located on the annular platform 92 and spaced from the drinking port 94 at 180-degrees angle, an air vent 96 formed in the insertion recess 95, and 4 female retaining portions, for example, dovetail grooves 97 located on the annular platform 92.

The advertisement carrier 100 can be a plastic sheet member or plastic laminated paper sheet member configured subject to the configuration of the surface 91 of the cup lid body 90, comprising a plurality of male retaining portions, for example, dovetail lugs 101 corresponding to the dovetail grooves 97 of the cup lid body 90.

The cup lid with an advertisement carrier in accordance with this fifth embodiment further comprises a plug (not shown) detachably plugged into the drinking port 94. Before drinking, the user can remove the plug from the drinking port 94 and temporarily rest the plug in the insertion recess 95.

Subject to the design of the advertisement carrier, different advertisements can be selectively attached to cup lids of disposable beverage cups, achieving rapid market promotion.

Although particular embodiments of the invention have been described in detail for purposes of illustration, various modifications and enhancements may be made without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention. Accordingly, the invention is not to be limited except as by the appended claims.

Claims

1. A cup lid, comprising: a cup lid body comprising a top wall, an annular coupling portion extending around said top wall for fastening to a rim of a disposable cup, and a drinking port located on said top wall; andan advertisement carrier made in the form of a sheet and attached to said top wall of said cup lid body, said advertisement carrier carrying an advertising design of a pattern, graphic device, logo and/or product blurb.

2. The cup lid as claimed in claim 1, wherein said cup lid body defining a mounting recess in said top wall; said advertisement carrier is press-fitted into said mounting recess.

3. The cup lid as claimed in claim 1, wherein said cup lid body further comprises an annular platform defining therein said mounting recess; said advertisement carrier is press-fitted into said mounting recess.

The cup lid as claimed in claim 1, wherein said cup lid body is made from plastic injection molding, comprising a plurality of upright pins upwardly protruded from said top wall; said advertisement carrier comprises a plurality of mounting through holes respectively fastened to said upright pins of said cup lid body.

5. The cup lid as claimed in claim 1, wherein said advertisement carrier is a sheet member selected from the material group of plastics and paper.

6. A cup lid, comprising: a cup lid body made in a circular shape, said cup lid body comprising a surface, an annular platform extending around said surface, a drinking portion, and at least one retaining portion located on said annular platform and abutted against said surface; andan advertisement carrier made in the form of a sheet and attached to said surface of said cup lid body, said advertisement carrier comprising at least one of retaining portion fastened to the at least one retaining portion of said cup lid body.

7. The cup lid as claimed in claim 6, wherein each retaining portion of said cup lid body is a dovetail groove; each retaining portion of said advertisement carrier is a dovetail lug press-fitted into the dovetail groove of the respective retaining portion of said cup lid body.

The cup lid as claimed in claim 6, wherein the at least one retaining portion of said cup lid body comprises three retaining grooves located on said annular platform; the at least one retaining portion of said advertisement carrier comprises three retaining lugs respectively press-fitted into the retaining grooves of the at least one retaining portion of said cup lid body.

The cup lid as claimed in claim 6, wherein said cup lid body further comprises an insertion recess located on said annular platform and spaced from said drinking portion at 180-degrees angle; the at least one retaining portion of said cup lid body comprises four retaining grooves located on said annular platform; the at least one retaining portion of said advertisement carrier comprises four retaining lugs respectively press-fitted into the four retaining grooves of the at least one retaining portion of said cup lid body.
