Claims
- 1. A compound according to the formula ##STR14## wherein R.sub.4 is a hydrogen or a lower alkyl, R.sub.5 is selected from the group consisting of a hydrogen, a hydroxyl, a lower alkyl, and a lower alkoxy, R.sub.6 is selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, a hydroxyl, lower alkyl, and a lower alkoxy, or wherein R.sub.5 and R.sub.6 are bonded together to form a ring structure having from three to six atoms in the ring, and wherein X is 2 or 3 and Y is 1 or 2.
- 2. The compound according to claim 1, selected from the group consisting of ##STR15##
- 3. The compound according to claim 1 wherein R satisfies the formula wherein R.sub.1 is selected from the group consisting of hydrogen and lower alkyl; R.sub.2 is selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, hydroxyl, lower alkyl, and lower alkoxy; R.sub.3 is selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, hydroxyl, lower alkyl, and lower alkoxy, or R.sub.2 and R.sub.3 are bonded together to form a cyclic ring structure having from 3 to about 6 atoms in the ring.
- 4. The compound according to claim 3 wherein R.sub.1 is hydrogen or methyl.
- 5. The compound according to claim 3 wherein R.sub.2 is selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, hydroxyl, and methoxy.
- 6. The compound according to claim 3 wherein R.sub.3 is selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, hydroxyl, and methoxy.
- 7. Curazole and steroisomers thereof having the formula ##STR16##
- 8. A composition comprising an effective amount of a compound according to the formula wherein R.sub.4 is a hydrogen or a lower alkyl, R.sub.5 is selected from the group consisting of a hydrogen, a hydroxyl, a lower alkyl, and a lower alkoxy, R.sub.6 is selected from the group consisting of a hydrogen, a hydroxyl, a lower alkyl, and a lower alkoxy, or wherein R.sub.5 and R.sub.6 are bonded together to form a ring structure having from three to six atoms in the ring, and wherein X is 2 or 3 and Y is 1 or 2.
- 9. The composition according to claim 8 comprising a sufficient amount of the compound to act as an antiproliferative agent to living cells.
- 10. The composition according to claim 9 wherein the compound is curazole and/or a stereoisomer thereof.
