Claims
- 1. A current amplifier, comprising:
- first and second mirroring transistors being supplied a substantially constant current from respective first and second current sources through respective first and second input nodes,
- a current signal input connected to at least one of said first and second input nodes, thereby to combine an input signal current with the current supplied by at least one of the first and second current sources to at least a respective one of said first and second mirroring transistors,
- said first mirroring transistor being connected to mirror its current to first and second output transistors,
- said second mirroring transistor being connected to mirror its current to third and fourth output transistors,
- means connected between said first node and the first mirroring transistor for controlling a voltage of the first node,
- means connected between said second node and the second mirroring transistor for controlling a voltage of the second node,
- said first and third output transistors being connected in series across a voltage source with a first output node therebetween, and
- said second and fourth output transistors being connected in series across a voltage source with a second output node therebetween.
- 2. The current amplifier of claim 1 wherein said first and second node voltage controlling means include respective first and second input transistors having individual control gates, and means connected to a reference voltage source for supplying a controlled voltage to said control gates.
- 3. The current amplifier of claim 1 which additionally comprises means responsive to a control signal for setting the level of the substantially constant current of said first and second current sources.
- 4. A current amplifier, comprising:
- first and second mirroring transistors being supplied a substantially constant current from respective first and second current sources,
- a current input connected to add to the current supplied to at least one of the mirroring transistors.
- said first mirroring transistor being connected to mirror its current to first and second output transistors,
- said second mirroring transistor being connected to mirror its current to third and fourth output transistors,
- said first and third output transistors being connected in series across a voltage source with a first output node therebetween,
- said second and fourth output transistors being connected in series across a voltage source with a second output node therebetween,
- first and second input transistors connected respectively in series between said first and second mirroring transistors and said first and second current sources in a manner to receive said current input, each of said first and second input transistors having a gate, and
- means connected a reference voltage source for supplying a controlled voltage to the gate of each of the first and second input transistors, said gate voltage supplying means including first and second differential amplifiers having outputs connected respectively to the gates of the first and second input transistors, an inverting input of each of said first and second amplifiers being connected between a connection of its associated one of the first and second input transistors and the first and second current sources, and a non-inverting input of each of said first and second amplifiers being connected to said reference voltage.
- 5. A current amplifier, comprising:
- first and second mirroring transistors being supplied a substantially constant current from respective first and second current sources,
- a current input connected to add to the current supplied to at least one of the mirroring transistors,
- said first mirroring transistor being connected to mirror its current to first and second output transistors,
- said second mirroring transistor being connected to mirror its current to third and fourth output transistors,
- said first and third output transistors being connected in series across a voltage source with a first output node therebetween,
- said second and fourth output transistors being connected in series across a voltage source with a second output node therebetween, and
- means responsive to an amplification factor signal for altering the size of said first, second, third and fourth output transistors.
- 6. A current amplifier, comprising:
- first and second mirroring transistors being supplied bias currents from respective first and second current sources through respective first and second input current signal nodes,
- a first voltage control transistor connected between said first node and said first mirroring transistor, said first voltage control transistor having a first control element,
- a second voltage control transistor connected between said second node and said second mirroring transistor, said second voltage control transistor having a second control element,
- means connected to said first and second control elements for maintaining the voltages of said first and second nodes substantially constant,
- first and second output circuits having respective first and second output nodes,
- a first mirroring circuit connected to mirror a level of current in the first mirroring transistor (a) into the first output circuit with a first polarity with respect to said first output node, and (b) into the second output circuit with a second polarity with respect to said second output node, said first and second polarities being opposite to each other, and
- a second mirroring circuit connected to mirror a level of current in the second mirroring transistor (a) into the second output circuit with said first polarity with respect to said second output node, and (b) into the first output circuit with said second polarity with respect to said first output node.
- 7. The current amplifier of claim 6, wherein the voltage maintaining means includes a constant voltage source.
- 8. The current amplifier of claim 6, wherein the voltage maintaining means includes a first differential amplifier having an output connected to said first control element, one input connected to said first node and another input connected to a reference voltage source, and a second differential amplifier having an output connected to said second control element, one input connected to said second node and another input connected to said reference voltage source.
- 9. The current amplifier of claim 6 wherein each of said first and second mirroring circuits includes means responsive to an amplification factor signal for adjusting a mirroring ratio thereof.
- 10. A current amplifier, comprising:
- a current input node,
- a first output circuit having a first current output node,
- a second output circuit having a second current output node,
- a mirroring circuit connected to receive an input current signal through said input node and mirror said input current signal into each of the first and second output circuits in a manner to provide current output signals at the first and second current output nodes that have opposite polarities, and means in addition to said mirroring circuit for maintaining said input node at a substantially constant voltage.
- 11. The current amplifier of claim 10 wherein said input node voltage maintaining means includes:
- a reference voltage source, and
- a transistor connected in series between the input node and the mirroring circuit and having a control element connected to said reference voltage source.
- 12. The current amplifier of claim 10 which additionally comprises a source of bias current connected to said current input node.
- 13. A current amplifier, comprising:
- a current input node,
- a first output circuit having a first current output node,
- a second output circuit having a second current output node,
- a mirroring circuit connected to receive an input current signal through said input node and mirror said input current signal into each of the first and second output circuits in a manner to provide current output signals at the first and second current output nodes that have opposite polarities, and
- means in addition to said mirroring circuit for maintaining said input node at a substantially constant voltage, wherein said input node voltage maintaining means includes:
- a reference voltage source,
- a transistor connected in series between the input node and the mirroring circuit and having a control element, and
- a differential amplifier having an output connected to said control element, a first input connected to said input node and a second input connected to said reference voltage source.
- 14. A current amplifier, comprising:
- a current input node,
- a first output circuit having a first current output node,
- a second output circuit having a second current output node,
- a mirroring circuit connected to receive an input current signal through said input node and mirror said input current signal into each of the first and second output circuits in a manner to provide current output signals at the first and second current output nodes that have opposite polarities, wherein said mirroring circuit includes means for adjusting a mirroring ratio between the input current signal and that mirrored into the first and second output circuits, thereby to control an amplification factor of the amplifier, and
- means in addition to said mirroring circuit for maintaining said input node at a substantially constant voltage.

This is a continuation-in-part of application Ser. No. 08/198,135, filed Feb. 16, 1994, of Hans W. Klein, now abandoned which in turn is a continuation-in-part of application Ser. No. 08/168,435, filed Dec. 17, 1993, now U.S. Pat. No. 5,444,579.
