Claims
- 1. Electric generating arrangement for a motor vehicle driven by an internal combustion engine, said electric generating system comprising a fuel cell system fueled by fuel from a fuel tank used for the internal combustion engine and coupled to supply electric power to electric consuming devices of said vehicle.
- 2. Arrangement according to claim 1, further comprising:apparatus for separating hydrogen from fuel used for the internal combustion engine; a supply pipe for feeding the separated hydrogen to the fuel cell system; and a disposal pipe for supplying remaining fuel constituents to one of the internal combustion engine and the fuel tank.
- 3. Arrangement according to claim 2, wherein the apparatus for separating hydrogen comprises a cracking system and an H2-separating system, said cracking system chemically decomposing the fuel into hydrogen and a cracking gas residue of remaining fuel constituents, and said H2-separating system, physically separating the hydrogen from the remaining fuel constituents.
- 4. Arrangement according to claim 3, wherein an intermediate H2-storage device is provided in the supply pipe.
- 5. Arrangement according to claim 2, wherein an intermediate storage device for the remaining fuel constituents is provided in the disposal pipe.
- 6. Arrangement according to claim 2, further comprising:a device for at least partially condensing remaining fuel constituents connected to the disposal pipe; and at least one of a first pipe arranged between the fuel cell system and the fuel tank, for discharge of liquid constituents from said device; and a second pipe arranged between the fuel cell system and the internal combustion engine, for discharge of gaseous constituents directly to the internal combustion engine.
- 7. Arrangement according to claim 1, further comprising a battery for starting the fuel cell system and/or a cracking system.
- 8. Electric generating arrangement for a motor vehicle having an internal combustion engine and a fuel tank which supplies fuel to the engine, said electric generating arrangement comprising:a fuel cell coupled to supply electric current to electrical components of said vehicle; reaction means for chemically decomposing said fuel into hydrogen and residual fuel constituents; a hydrogen separating device coupled to receive said hydrogen and said residual fuel constituents from said reaction means, said hydrogen separating device being coupled to provide hydrogen to said fuel cell both by way of a direct connection, and indirectly by way of a first intermediate hydrogen storage vessel; and a disposal line coupled to supply residual fuel constituents from said reaction means to at least one of said fuel tank and said internal combustion engine.
- 9. Arrangement according to claim 8, further comprising a second intermediate storage vessel coupled to receive said residual fuel constituents from said disposal line.
- 10. Arrangement according to claim 9, further comprising:a first output line coupled to supply a liquid portion of said residual fuel constituents from said second intermediate storage vessel to said fuel tank; and a second output line coupled to supply a gaseous portion of said residual fuel constituents from said second intermediate storage vessel to said internal combustion engine.
- 11. Arrangement according to claim 10, further comprising means for mixing said gaseous portion with fuel from said fuel tank.
