Claims
- 1. A method for customizing a video service in a content distribution system, the method comprising steps of:
receiving preference information entered by a user of the content distribution system to influence a profile for the user; observing interaction of the user with the video service; modifying the profile based upon the observing step; customizing the video service based, at least in part, on the profile; generating a program guide customized according to the profile; and modifying the profile to remove older interaction information.
- 2. The method for customizing the video service in the content distribution system as recited in claim 1, wherein the customizing step comprises at least one of the following steps:
sorting channels of the video service in various guide screens; and sorting SVOD programs, VOD programs and stored programs in the various guide screens.
- 3. The method for customizing the video service in the content distribution system as recited in claim 1, further comprising a step of selecting a plurality of programs in a grid guide of programs to display more detailed information for that plurality of programs.
- 4. The method for customizing the video service in the content distribution system as recited in claim 1, wherein the receiving step comprises receiving preference information for a plurality of users.
- 5. The method for customizing the video service in the content distribution system as recited in claim 4, further comprising a step of determining which of the plurality of users is currently controlling interaction with the content distribution system.
- 6. The method for customizing the video service in the content distribution system as recited in claim 4, further comprising a step of applying one of a plurality of profiles corresponding to the user currently controlling interaction with the content distribution system.
- 7. The method for customizing the video service in the content distribution system as recited in claim 4, further comprising a step of requesting correction of identity from the user currently controlling interaction with the content distribution system.
- 8. A computer-readable medium having computer-executable instructions for performing a computer-implementable method for customizing the video service in the content distribution system of claim 1.
- 9. A method for customizing a video service in a content distribution system, the method comprising steps of:
observing interaction of the user with the video service; modifying a profile for the user based upon the observing step; formulating questions regarding a watched program; modifying the profile based upon answers to the questions; customizing the video service based, at least in part, on the profile; and generating a program guide customized according to the profile.
- 10. The method for customizing the video service in the content distribution system as recited in claim 9, wherein at least one answer to the questions has more than two responses.
- 11. The method for customizing the video service in the content distribution system as recited in claim 9, further comprising a step of receiving preference information entered by a user of the content distribution system to influence the profile for that user.
- 12. The method for customizing the video service in the content distribution system as recited in claim 9, further comprising a step of receiving preference information to influence a plurality of profiles for a plurality of users.
- 13. The method for customizing the video service in the content distribution system as recited in claim 9, wherein the information gathered in the observing step only affects the profile for a limited time.
- 14. A computer-readable medium having computer-executable instructions for performing a computer-implementable method for customizing the video service in the content distribution system of claim 9.
- 15. A method for customizing a video service in a content distribution system for a plurality of associated users, the method comprising steps of:
receiving first preference information to influence a first profile for a first user; determining the first user is interacting with the video service; observing interaction of the first user with the video service; modifying the first profile based upon the first-listed observing step; customizing the video service based, at least in part, on the first profile; generating a first program guide that is influenced by the first profile; receiving second preference information to influence a second profile for a second user; determining the second user is interacting with the video service; observing interaction of the second user with the video service; modifying the second profile based upon the second-listed observing step; customizing the video service based, at least in part, on the second profile; and generating a second program guide that is influenced by the second profile.
- 16. The method for customizing the video service in the content distribution system for the plurality of associated users as recited in claim 15, further comprising a step of presenting a question to the user after exiting from a program.
- 17. The method for customizing the video service in the content distribution system for the plurality of associated users as recited in claim 15, wherein the questions has more than two possible responses.
- 18. The method for customizing the video service in the content distribution system for the plurality of associated users as recited in claim 15, modifying the first profile to remove older interaction information in the first profile.
- 19. The method for customizing the video service in the content distribution system for the plurality of associated users as recited in claim 15, modifying the second profile to remove older interaction information in the second profile.
- 20. A computer-readable medium having computer-executable instructions for performing a computer-implementable method for or customizing the video service in the content distribution system for the plurality of associated users of claim 15.
