Claims
- 1. A rotary holder assembly for holding a cutting die for cutting a pattern from a blank, the assembly comprising:
a clamping bar comprising a free end and a pivot end, said pivot end comprising a hook; a cylindrical die holder adapted for rotating about an axis, said die holder comprising an outer surface and a longitudinally extending slot, said slot comprising a pin for pivotally receiving said hook so that the clamping bar and the pin cooperate to clamp at least one of the ends of the cutting die between said free end and said pivot end of the clamping bar thereby securing the cutting die to the holder.
- 2. The assembly of claim 1, wherein said clamping bar further comprises at least one retaining member for retaining the free end of the clamping bar after the cutting die is secured to the holder.
- 3. The assembly of claim 2, wherein at least one said retaining member comprises a screw for engaging and retaining the free end of the clamping bar after the cutting die is secured to the holder.
- 4. The assembly of claim 2, wherein said rotary holder assembly further comprises a biasing member positioned under one of said free end and said pivot ends of said clamping bar.
- 5. The assembly of claim 4, wherein said biasing member comprises a spring.
- 6. The assembly of claim 2, wherein said rotary holder assembly further comprises a biasing member positioned under both said free end and said pivot end of said clamping bar.
- 7. The assembly of claim 6, wherein at least one of said biasing members comprises a spring.
- 8. The assembly of claim 3, wherein another said retaining member comprises a second screw located between said free end and said pivot end of said clamping bar.
- 9. The assembly of claim 8, wherein said rotary holder assembly further comprises a biasing member positioned under said second screw.
- 10. A rotary holder assembly for holding a cutting die for cutting a pattern from a blank, the assembly comprising:
a bifurcated clamping bar comprising first and second pivot ends substantially bisected by first and second retaining ends, said first and second pivot ends each comprising a hook; a cylindrical die holder adapted for rotating about an axis, said die holder comprising an outer surface and a longitudinally extending slot, said slot comprising first and second pins at each respective end thereof for pivotally receiving a respective first and second hook of said clamping bar so that said clamping bar and said pins cooperate to clamp at least one of the ends of the cutting die between said first and second pivot ends thereby securing the cutting die to the holder.
- 11. The assembly of claim 10, wherein said bifurcated clamping bar further comprises at least one retaining member for retaining said first and second retaining ends of the clamping bar after the cutting die is secured to the holder.
- 12. The assembly of claim 11, wherein said retaining member comprises at least one screw.
- 13. The assembly of claim 12, wherein said retaining member further comprises a biasing member.
- 14. The assembly of claim 13, wherein said biasing member comprises a spring.
- 15. In a rotary holder assembly for holding a cutting die for cutting a pattern from a blank, the assembly comprising a clamping bar comprising a free end and a pivot end, said pivot end comprising a hook; a cylindrical die holder adapted for rotating about an axis, said die holder comprising an outer surface and a longitudinally extending slot, said die holder further comprising a pin at one end of said slot for pivotally receiving said hook and means for retaining the free end of said clamping bar at another end of said slot, said clamping bar and pin cooperating to clamp at least one of the ends of the cutting die between said free end and said pivot end of the clamping bar thereby securing the cutting die to the holder, a method for clamping a cutting die to the surface of said holder comprising the following steps:
placing said cutting die on the outer surface of said die holder and perpendicular to said slot; placing an end of said cutting die in said slot; placing the hook end of the clamping bar into cooperation with said pin; retaining the free end of the clamping bar with the retaining means with the cutting die between the hook end and the free end of the clamping bar, thereby clamping the cutting die to the surface of the die holder.
- 16. In rotary holder assembly for holding a cutting die for cutting a pattern from a blank, the assembly comprising a bifurcated clamping bar comprising first and second pivot ends substantially bisected by first and second retaining ends, said first and second pivot ends each comprising a hook; a cylindrical die holder adapted for rotating about an axis, said die holder comprising an outer surface and a longitudinally extending slot, said slot comprising first and second pins at each end thereof for pivotally receiving a respective first and second hook of said clamping bar, said die holder further comprising at least one retaining member for retaining said first and second retaining ends of the clamping bar after the cutting die is secured to the holder when said clamping bar and said pins cooperate to clamp at least one of the ends of the cutting die between said first and second pivot ends thereby securing the cutting die to the holder, a method of clamping a cutting die to the surface of the holder comprising the following steps:
placing said cutting die on the outer surface of said die holder and perpendicular to said slot; placing an end of said cutting die in said slot; placing one said hook end of the clamping bar into cooperation with one said pin; placing the other hook end of the clamping bar into cooperation with the other said pin; retaining one free end of the clamping bar with the respective retaining means; retaining the other free end of the clamping bar with the other respective retaining means, thereby clamping the cutting die to the surface of the die holder.
