Claims
- 1. An isolated protein having cell cycle accelerating activity comprising:
(a) a polypeptide comprising at least 25 contiguous amino acids of SEQ ID NOS: 2, 12, 14, or 22; (b) a polypeptide which is a monocot cyclin D protein; (c) a polypeptide comprising at least 85% sequence identity to SEQ ID NOS: 2, 12, 14, or 22, wherein the % sequence identity is based on the entire sequence and is determined by GAP 10 using default parameters; (d) a polypeptide encoded by a nucleic acid of SEQ ID NOS: 1, 11, 13, or 21; (e) a polypeptide comprising a first domain of the plant CycD specific binding motif LXCXE; a second domain of a WILKV motif; and a third domain of a cyclin box; (f) a polypeptide encoded by the polynucleotide having the sequence of ATCC deposit having the Designation No. 98848 or 98847; or (g) a polypeptide characterized by SEQ ID NO: 2, 12, 14, or 22.
- 2. The protein of claim 1, wherein the polypeptide is catalytically active.
- 3. A host cell comprising the isolated protein of claim 1.
- 4. The host cell of claim 3 that is a plant cell.
- 5. The plant cell of claim 4 that is a transgenic cell.
- 6. A ribonucleic acid sequence encoding the isolated protein of claim 1.
- 7. An isolated protein having RB phosphorylation activity comprising:
(a) a polypeptide comprising at least 25 contiguous amino acids of SEQ ID NOS: 2, 12, 14, or 22; (b) a polypeptide which is a monocot cyclin D protein; (c) a polypeptide comprising at least 85% sequence identity to SEQ ID NOS: 2, 12, 14, or 22, wherein the % sequence identity is based on the entire sequence and is determined by GAP 10 using default parameters; (d) a polypeptide encoded by a nucleic acid of SEQ ID NOS: 1, 11, 13, or 21; (e) a polypeptide comprising a first domain of the plant CycD specific binding motif LXCXE; a second domain of a WILKV motif; and a third domain of a cyclin box; (f) a polypeptide encoded by the polynucleotide having the sequence of ATCC deposit having the Designation No. 98848 or 98847; or (g) a polypeptide characterized by SEQ ID NO: 2, 12, 14, or 22.
- 8. A host cell comprising the isolated protein of claim 7.
- 9. The host cell of claim 8 that is a plant cell.
- 10. The plant cell of claim 9 that is a transgenic cell.
- 11. A ribonucleic acid sequence encoding the isolated protein of claim 7.
- 12. The polypeptide of claim 7, wherein the polypeptide further comprises cell cycle accelerating activity.
- 13. An isolated polypeptide having transformation efficiency activity comprising:
(a) a polypeptide comprising at least 25 contiguous amino acids of SEQ ID NOS: 2, 12, 14, or 22; (b) a polypeptide which is a monocot cyclin D protein; (c) a polypeptide comprising at least 85% sequence identity to SEQ ID NOS: 2, 12, 14, or 22, wherein the % sequence identity is based on the entire sequence and is determined by GAP 10 using default parameters; (d) a polypeptide encoded by a nucleic acid of SEQ ID NOS: 1, 11, 13, or 21; (e) a polypeptide comprising a first domain of the plant CycD specific binding motif LXCXE; a second domain of a WILKV motif; and a third domain of a cyclin box; (f) a polypeptide encoded by the polynucleotide having the sequence of ATCC deposit having the Designation No. 98848 or 98847; or (g) a polypeptide characterized by SEQ ID NO: 2, 12, 14, or 22.
- 14. A host cell comprising the isolated protein of claim 13.
- 15. The host cell of claim 14 that is a plant cell.
- 16. The plant cell of claim 15 that is a transgenic cell.
- 17. A ribonucleic acid sequence encoding the isolated protein of claim 13.
- 18. A method of modulating the level of CycD protein in a cell, comprising:
(a) transforming a cell with a recombinant expression cassette comprising a CycD polynucleotide operably linked to a promoter; (b) growing the cell under cell-growing conditions for a time sufficient to induce expression of the polynucleotide sufficient to modulate CycD protein in the cell.
- 19. The method of claim 18, wherein the level of CycD protein is modulated upward to provide for positive selection.
- 20. A method of increasing transformation efficiency, comprising introducing a CycD polypeptide into a plant cell comprising an exogenous nucleic acid.
