Claims
- 1. A dried whey permeate in powder form which, upon reconstitution with water, provides a liquid whey permeate having a pH no lower than about 6.3.
- 2. A dried whey permeate according to claim 1 which, upon reconstitution with water, provides a liquid whey permeate having a pH no lower than about 6.5.
- 3. A dried whey permeate according to claim 1 which, upon reconstitution with water, provides a liquid whey permeate having a pH no lower than about 6.6.
- 4. A dried whey permeate according to claim 1 which, upon reconstitution with water, provides a liquid whey permeate having a pH no lower than about 6.7.
- 5. A dried whey permeate according to claim 1 which, upon reconstitution with water, provides a liquid whey permeate having a pH no lower than about 6.8.
- 6. A whey permeate in liquid form, prepared by reconstituting a dried whey permeate according to claim 1 with water.
- 7. A whey permeate in liquid form, prepared by reconstituting a dried whey permeate according to claim 2 with water.
- 8. A whey permeate in liquid form, prepared by reconstituting a dried whey permeate according to claim 3 with water.
- 9. A whey permeate in liquid form, prepared by reconstituting a dried whey permeate according to claim 4 with water.
- 10. A whey permeate in liquid form, prepared by reconstituting a dried whey permeate according to claim 1 with non-chlorinated water.
- 11. An electrolyte beverage comprising a whey permeate in liquid form according to claim 6 and one or more flavoring agents.
- 12. An electrolyte beverage comprising a whey permeate in liquid form according to claim 10 and one or more flavoring agents.
- 13. An electrolyte beverage according to claim 11 further comprising lactase in an amount sufficient to substantially hydrolyze the lactose contained in the whey permeate.
- 14. An electrolyte beverage according to claim 11 having a sodium concentration of at least about 45 mEq/L.
- 15. An electrolyte beverage according to claim 14 having a potassium concentration of no more than about 25 mEq/L.
- 16. An electrolyte beverage according to claim 15 having a potassium concentration of no more than about 5 mEq/L.
- 17. An electrolyte beverage according to claim 11 formed from a whey permeate containing no more than about 0.25 wt. % milk protein.
- 18. An electrolyte beverage according to claim 17 formed from a whey permeate containing no more than about 0.1 wt. % milk protein.
- 19. An electrolyte beverage according to claim 18 formed from a whey permeate containing no more than about 0.025 wt. % milk protein.
- 20. An electrolyte beverage according to claim 11 wherein the flavoring agent is selected from the group consisting of low-acid orange flavor, lemon, lime, grapefruit, banana, pear, vanilla, oat, rice and mixtures thereof.
- 21. An electrolyte beverage according to claim 11 wherein the flavoring agent comprises hypoallergenic chocolate.
- 22. An electrolyte beverage according to claim 11 wherein the flavoring agent comprises hypoallergenic cocoa powder.
- 23. An electrolyte beverage according to claim 22 wherein the flavoring agent comprises defatted cocoa powder.
- 24. An electrolyte beverage according to claim 23 having decreased migraine potential.
- 25. An electrolyte beverage according to claim 11 containing the mineral content of whole or skim milk.
- 26. An electrolyte beverage according to claim 11 containing the mineral content of infant formula.
- 27. An electrolyte beverage according to claim 11 which is palatable to human beings.
