Claims
- 1. A stator assembly, comprising:
a stator segment; a seal mounted to said stator segment; and a damper between said stator segment and said seal, said damper having: a medial section; and opposed arms extending from said medial section; wherein said medial section engages one of said stator segment and said seal and said opposed arms engage the other of said stator segment and said seal.
- 2. The stator assembly of claim 1, wherein said damper is symmetric.
- 3. The stator assembly of claim 1, wherein said damper is asymmetric.
- 4. The stator assembly of claim 1, wherein said medial section engages said seal.
- 5. The stator assembly of claim 1, wherein said damper further comprises a plurality of slots.
- 6. A damper for reducing vibration between a stator segment and a seal, comprising:
a medial section for engaging one of said stator segment and said seal; and opposed arms extending from said medial section for engaging the other of said stator segment and said seal.
- 7. The damper of claim 6, wherein said damper is symmetric.
- 8. The damper of claim 6, wherein said damper is asymmetric.
- 9. The damper of claim 6, wherein said medial section engages said seal.
- 10. The damper of claim 6, wherein said damper further comprises a plurality of slots.
- 11. A method of making a damper for reducing vibration between a stator segment and a seal, comprising the steps of:
providing a sheet of material having a medial section and opposed arms extending from said medial section; forming a bend at said medial section so that said medial section can engage one of said stator segment and said seal; and forming a bend at each of said arms so that said arms can engage the other of said stator segment and said seal.
- 12. The method of claim 11, wherein said forming steps occur simultaneously.
- 13. The method of claim 12, wherein said forming steps occur during a single pass through tooling equipment.
- 14. The method of claim 1, further comprising a step of providing a plurality of slots to said damper.
- 15. The method of claim 11, wherein said damper is symmetric.
- 16. The method of claim 11, wherein said damper is asymmetric.
- 17. The method of claim 11, wherein said medial section can engage said seal.
