Claims
- 1. A cartridge for use in a data drive, said cartridge comprising:
an outer casing having top and bottom surfaces; a magnetic media rotatably disposed within said outer casing; a head access opening in a front peripheral edge of said outer casing; at least one reflector disposed on at least one of said top and bottom surfaces of said outer casing; said at least one reflector reflecting light incident thereon from one point on said at least one reflector to a second point on said at least one reflector.
- 2. The cartridge as recited in claim 1 wherein said at least one reflector is positioned proximate said front peripheral edge of said outer casing.
- 3. The cartridge as recited in claim 1 wherein said at least one reflector reflects at least a portion of light traveling along a first path in a direction along a second path wherein said second path is substantially parallel to said first path.
- 4. The cartridge as recited in claim 1 wherein said outer casing is substantially rectangular in shape having two front comers proximate the front peripheral edge and two back comers and wherein said at least one reflector is positioned proximate at least one of the comers of said outer casing.
- 5. The cartridge as recited in claim 4 wherein said comer comprises at least one of said front comers.
- 6. The cartridge of claim 1 wherein said at least one reflector is indicative of a cartridge operable in a disk drive.
- 7. A magnetic disk cartridge comprising:
a substantially planar outer casing having a substantially planar surface; a magnetic media rotatably disposed within said outer casing; a head access opening proximate a front edge of said outer casing; and, a reflector attached to one of said planar surfaces; said reflector having a reflective surface such that a substantially all light directed toward said substantially planar surface that is incident to said reflector at a first point is redirected to a second point upon said reflector and thereafter reflected away from said planar surface without passing through a plane of said substantially planar surface.
- 8. A cartridge for use with a data drive, comprising:
at least one reflector such that irradiance receive from a source of irradiance that is incident at a first point on said at least one reflector is reflected to a second point on said at least one reflector, and reflected to a point proximate the source of irradiance.
- 9. The cartridge of claim 8 wherein said at least one reflector comprises one or more fresnel lenses.
- 10. The cartridge of claim 8 wherein said at least one reflector comprises:
a first point of reflection for receiving light emanating from the source of irradiance; a second point of reflection for receiving light reflected from said first point of reflection and reflecting light which ultimately is detected by the detector of reflected light.
- 11. A cartridge for use in a data drive, comprising at least one optical pipe having at least a first aperture and a second aperture, said optical pipe transmitting irradiance from said first aperture of said at least one optical pipe to said second aperture of said at least one optical pipe.
- 12. A cartridge for use in a data drive, comprising an irradiance emitting apparatus therein.
- 13. The cartridge of claim 12, wherein said irradiance emitting apparatus is a light emitting diode.
- 14. A cartridge for use in a data drive, comprising a marker, said marker being rotatable relative to said cartridge.
- 15. A cartridge for use in a data drive, comprising a replaceable marker.
- 16. A cartridge for use in a drive having a receiver, said cartridge comprising:
a substantially planar outer casing; a magnetic medium rotatably disposed within said outer casing; a mirror oriented on said substantially planar outer casing such that at least a portion of irradiance incident upon said mirror is reflected back to the receiver.
- 17. A cartridge for use in a drive, said cartridge comprising a retroreflective surface wherein said retroreflective surface comprises at least one retroreflective element having a pitch.
