- 7. The data transfer system of claim 6, wherein the at least one foldable ear portion is folded by the application of an external shield around the optical fiber connection unit.
- 8. The data transfer system of claim 1, wherein the distal ferrule receiving ends of the first and second electro-optical components are cylindrical.
- 9. The data transfer system of claim 1, wherein the optical fiber connection unit includes at least one tab configured to retain the internal electromagnetic shield on the distal ferrule receiving ends of the first and second electro-optical components.
- 10. The data transfer system of claim 1, further comprising:a memory; a processor coupled to the memory; and a bus coupled to the processor and configured to interface the optical fiber link module with the processor.
- 11. A data transfer system including an internally shielded optical fiber link module, the optical fiber link module comprising:a frame with an optical fiber connection unit; an electronic circuit mounted within the frame; an electro-optical component, connected to the electronic circuit and having a distal ferrule receiving end; and an internal electromagnetic shield, mounted within the optical fiber connection unit and having an aperture sized to receive the distal ferrule receiving end of the electro-optical component.
- 12. The data transfer system of claim 11, wherein the optical fiber link module further comprises a second electro-optical component having a distal ferrule receiving end, wherein the internal electromagnetic shield has a second aperture sized to receive the distal ferrule receiving end of the second electro-optical component.
- 13. The data transfer system of claim 11, wherein the internal electromagnetic shield comprises a sheet of a metallic material.
- 14. The data transfer system of claim 11, wherein the metallic material is selected from the group consisting of gold, silver, copper and nickel or alloys thereof.
- 15. The data transfer system of claim 11, wherein the metallic material comprises about 12 percent by weight nickel, 59 percent by weight copper, and 29 percent by weight zinc.
- 16. The data transfer system of claim 11, wherein the optical fiber link module further comprises an external shield enclosing the optical fiber connection unit.
- 17. The data transfer system of claim 11, wherein the internal electromagnetic shield includes at least one foldable ear portion.
- 18. The data transfer system of claim 17, wherein the at least one foldable ear portion is folded by the application of an external shield around the optical fiber connection unit.
- 19. The data transfer system of claim 11, wherein the distal ferrule receiving end of the electro-optical component is cylindrical.
- 20. The data transfer system of claim 11, wherein the optical fiber connection unit includes at least one tab configured to retain the internal electromagnetic shield on the distal ferrule receiving end of the electro-optical component.
- 21. The data transfer system of claim 11, further comprising:a memory; a processor coupled to the memory; and a bus coupled to the processor and configured to interface the optical fiber link module with the processor.
- 22. A computer system, comprising:a memory; a processor coupled to the memory; and an internally shielded optical fiber link module coupled to the processor, the optical fiber link module comprising: a frame with an optical fiber connection unit; an electronic circuit mounted within the frame; an electro-optical component, connected to the electronic circuit and having a distal ferrule receiving end; and an internal electromagnetic shield, mounted within the optical fiber connection unit and having an aperture sized to receive the distal ferrule receiving end of the electro-optical component.
