Claims
- 1. A deadbolt lock assembly which can be assembled with one of two different lockbolt extensions, comprising:
- interior and exterior housings, at least one of said housings carrying a lock cylinder having a drive bar extending from the rear thereof;
- a lock bolt assembly carried between said interior and exterior housings, said lockbolt assembly including:
- a latchcase having an elongated hollow case extension, said case extension including both an upper and lower pair of opposing longitudinal slots, one each of said upper and lower slots being located on either side of said case extension;
- a hub rotatably mounted within the case extension below said slots, said hub including a slotted arm extending radially therefrom, said hub being coupled to said at least one drive bar to be rotated thereby;
- a lock bolt slidably carried within said latchcase, said lockbolt having a bolt extension which extends into said case extension, said bolt extension including upper and lower longitudinally offset openings corresponding to said upper and lower pairs of slots, respectively; and
- a pin for coupling the arm of the hub to the bolt extension, said pin passing through one of said pairs of slots on the case extension, through the slot in the arm and through one of the openings in the bolt extension, wherein when the hub is rotated, the pin will be moved longitudinally along the case extension, thereby moving the bolt extension and bolt, the degree of bolt extension being a first amount when the pin passes through the upper slots and upper opening and a second amount when the pin passes through the lower slot and lower opening, the length of the upper and lower pairs of slots being such that the amount of rotation of the hub is substantially the same irrespective of the position of said pin.
- 2. The assembly of claim 1 wherein said bolt extension has a U-shaped cross-section and further including a dowel, one end of which extends into the lockbolt and the other end of which extends into the bolt extension, said dowel strengthening the joint between the bolt and bolt extension.
- 3. A deadbolt lock assembly which can be assembled with one of at least two different selectable lockbolt extensions, comprising:
- a latchcase;
- a rotatable hub mounted within the latchcase, said hub including an arm extending radially therefrom;
- a lockbolt slidably carried within said latchcase, a pair of pin-receiving openings extending through said lockbolt at locations which are mutually laterally offset with respect to the direction of travel of said lockbolt;
- said latchcase including a pair of elongated slots extending generally in said direction of travel and being laterally aligned with said openings;
- pin means for coupling the arm of the hub to one of the locations on the lockbolt, said pin means being insertable through one of said slots and a corresponding one of said openings, so that when the hub is rotated, the bolt will be moved longitudinally within the latchcase between a fully extended and a fully retracted position, the extent of full lockbolt travel being determined by which opening and slot said pin means extends through, said extent of full lockbolt travel thus being adjustable after lock assembly.
