Claims
- 1. A process for manufacturing a decorative ceramic or glass article in which a ceramic dye composition (toner) is applied onto a transfer means, the transfer means coated with the ceramic dye composition is applied onto the ceramic or glass article and, after removal of the transfer means, the ceramic dye composition is combined with said ceramic or glass article by baking, wherein said ceramic dye composition consists of fine particles of ceramic pigments, a binding medium resin and optionally one or more additives selected from the group consisting of a charge control agent, a flowability improving agent, magnetic particles, and carrier particles, said ceramic pigments being present in the ceramic dye composition in an amount of from 10 to 70 wt. %, and wherein the ceramic dye composition is applied onto the transfer means by means of an electrophotographic reproduction process (electrocopying process).
- 2. The process according to claim 1, wherein said ceramic pigments are pigments of the spinel type or zirconium silicate type.
- 3. The process according to claim 1, wherein said ceramic pigments form particle cores which are encased by said binding medium resin.
- 4. The process according to claim 1, wherein said binding medium resin is composed of one or more vinyl monomers.
- 5. The process according to claim 4, wherein said binding medium resin comprises one or more vinyl monomers selected from the group consisting of styrene, ortho-methylstyrene, meta-methylstyrene, para-methylstyrene, para-methoxystyrene, para-ethylstyrene, methyl-methacrylate, ethyl-methacrylate, propyl-methacrylate, n-butyl-methacrylate, isobutyl-methacrylate, n-octyl-methacrylate, dodecyl-methacrylate, 2-ethylhexyl-methacrylate, stearyl-methacrylate, phenyl-methacrylate, dimethylaminoethyl-methacrylate, diethylaminoethyl-methacrylate, methyl acrylate, ethyl acrylate, n-butyl acrylate, isobutyl acrylate, propyl acrylate, n-octyl acrylate, dodecyl acrylate, 2-ethylhexyl acrylate, stearyl acrylate, 2-chloroethyl acrylate, phenyl acrylate, acrylonitrile, methacrylonitrile, acrylamide, maleic acid, monobutylmaleate, dibutylmaleate, monomethylmaleate, dimethylmaleate, vinyl chloride, vinyl acetate, vinyl benzoate, vinyl methyl ketone, vinyl ethyl ketone, vinyl methyl ether, vinyl ethyl ether, and vinyl isobutyl ether.
- 6. The process according to claim 1, wherein said fine particles have a size of from 1 to 50 .mu.m.
- 7. The process according to claim 1, wherein said transfer means is a paper carrier which is coated with gum arabic, polyvinyl acetate or wax.
- 8. The process according to claim 1, wherein said ceramic dye composition is applied onto the transfer means by means of a laser printer.
- 9. The process according to claim 1, wherein said ceramic dye composition is applied with a layer thickness of 0.1 mm to 3 mm onto the transfer means.
- 10. The process according to claim 9, wherein said ceramic dye composition is applied with a layer thickness of 0.3 mm to 0.6 mm onto the transfer means.
- 11. The process according to claim 1, wherein said ceramic dye composition is fixed without pressure and with the application of heat following the transfer onto the transfer means.
- 12. The process according to claim 1, wherein said ceramic dye composition and said developer has a mixing ratio of between 30 wt. % and 80 wt. % toner for the electrophotographic reproduction process.
- 13. The process according to claims 1, wherein said ceramic dye composition is additionally fixed by a clear lacquer after being applied on the transfer means.
- 14. The process according to claim 1, wherein said ceramic dye composition is baked at a temperature in the range of 800 to 1500.degree. C. after removal of said transfer means.
- 15. A decorated ceramic or glass article obtained by a process according to claim 1.
