Claims
- 1. A decorative ribbon for attachment to the surface of an article to be decorated therewith, the ribbon comprising:
- an elongate, substantially-flat, flexible ribbon element having a top display side, a bottom side, and opposed, laterally spaced side edges;
- an adhesive layer adhered on at least portions of said bottom side, whereby said ribbon element may be attached to a surface of an article for decorative packaging purposes; and
- a peripherally incomplete cut line spaced inwardly of the side edges of said ribbon element and defining the periphery of a decorative design element interrupted by an uncut portion of the ribbon element by which the decorative design element is secured to the ribbon element, said cut line extends substantially fully through the thickness of the ribbon and the adhesive layer intercepted by the cut line, the decorative design element being displaceable out of the plane of the ribbon element along said cut line by bending at said uncut portion to form a stand-up decorative design element, providing a three-dimensional decorative ribbon effect.
- 2. The ribbon of claim 1 wherein said decorative design element has a first width as measured transversely of said ribbon element, and said uncut portion has a width measured transversely of said ribbon element which is a minor portion of said first width.
- 3. The ribbon of claim 1 which further includes a decorative pattern within the periphery of said decorative design element.
- 4. The ribbon of claim 1, which further comprises an elongate backing strip overlying the adhesive on the bottom side of said ribbon element, which backing strip is removable to expose said adhesive for application of said ribbon element to an article.
- 5. The ribbon of claim 4 wherein the cut line defining said decorative design element extends substantially fully through the thickness of the ribbon element and the adhesive layer intercepted by the cut line but not through said backing strip.
- 6. The ribbon of claim 1 wherein said adhesive is a controllable adhesive which allows the ribbon element to be removed from and re-applied to the surface of an article without damage to the article.
- 7. The ribbon of claim 1 wherein said uncut portion is severable to allow said decorative design element to be removed from the ribbon element for selected placement on the surface of the article spaced from the ribbon element for added package decoration.
- 8. A decorative ribbon for attachment to the surface of an article to be decorated therewith, the ribbon comprising:
- an elongate, substantially flat, flexible ribbon element having a top display side, a bottom side, and opposed, laterally spaced side edges;
- a controllable adhesive layer adhered on at least portions of said bottom side of said ribbon element which may be attached to a surface of an article for decorative packaging purposes but may be removed from and re-applied to said surface without damage to the article; and
- a peripherally incomplete cut line spaced inwardly of the side edges of said ribbon element and defining the periphery of a decorative design element interrupted by an uncut portion of the ribbon element by which the decorative design element is secured to the ribbon element, the decorative design element being displaceable out of the plane of the ribbon element along said cut line by bending at said uncut portion to form a stand-up decorative design element, providing a three-dimensional decorative ribbon effect, said cut line extends substantially fully through the thickness of the ribbon and the adhesive layer intercepted by the cut line, said decorative design element having a first width as measured transversely-of said ribbon element, and said uncut portion has a width measured transversely of said ribbon element which is a minor portion of said first width.
- 9. The ribbon of claim 8 including an elongate backing strip overlying the adhesive layer on the bottom side of said ribbon element, which backing strip is removable to expose said adhesive for application of said ribbon element to an article, and said cut line defining said decorative design element extends substantially fully through the thickness of the ribbon element and the adhesive layer intercepted by the cut line but not through said backing strip.
- 10. The ribbon of claim 8, which further includes a decorative pattern within the periphery of said decorative design element.
- 11. A decorative ribbon for attachment to the surface of an article to be decorated therewith, the ribbon comprising:
- an elongate, substantially flat, flexible ribbon element having a top display side, a bottom side, and opposed, laterally spaced side edges;
- a controllable adhesive layer adhered on at least portions of said bottom side of said ribbon element which may be attached to a surface of an article for decorative packaging purposes but may be removed from and re-applied to said surface without damage to the article;
- a peripherally incomplete cut line spaced inwardly of the side edges of said ribbon element and defining the periphery of a decorative design element interrupted by an uncut portion of the ribbon element by which the decorative design element is secured to the ribbon element, the decorative design element being displaceable out of the plane of the ribbon element along said cut line by bending at said uncut portion to form a stand-up decorative design element, providing a three-dimensional decorative ribbon effect, said decorative design element has a first width as measured transversely of said ribbon element, and said uncut portion has a width measured transversely of said ribbon-element which is a minor portion of said first width;
- a decorative pattern within the periphery of said decorative design element; and
- an elongate backing strip overlying the adhesive layer on the bottom side of said ribbon element, which backing strip is removable to expose said adhesive for application of said ribbon to an article, and the cut line defining said decorative design element extends substantially fully through the thickness of the ribbon element and the adhesive layer intercepted by the cut line but not through said backing strip.
- 12. A decorative ribbon for attachment to the surface of an article to be decorated therewith, the ribbon comprising:
- an elongate, substantially flat, flexible ribbon element having a top display side, a bottom side, and opposed, laterally spaced side edges,
- an adhesive layer adhered on at least portions of the ribbon element for attaching the ribbon to a surface of an article for decorative packaging purposes, and
- a peripherally incomplete cut line spaced inwardly of the side edges of said ribbon element and defining the periphery of a decorative design element interrupted by an uncut portion of the ribbon element by which the decorative design element is secured to the ribbon element, the decorative design element being displaceable out of the plane of the ribbon element along said cut line by bending at said uncut portion to form a stand-up decorative design element, said cut line extends substantially fully through the thickness of the ribbon and the adhesive layer intercepted by the cut line, providing a three-dimensional decorative ribbon effect.
- 13. The ribbon of claim 1 including a plurality of said peripherally incomplete cut lines spaced apart longitudinally along the ribbon element and defining a plurality of said decorative design elements.
- 14. The ribbon of claim 8 including a plurality of said peripherally incomplete cut lines spaced apart longitudinally along the ribbon element and defining a plurality of said decorative design elements.
- 15. The ribbon of claim 11 including a plurality of said peripherally incomplete cut lines spaced apart longitudinally along the ribbon element and defining a plurality of said decorative design elements.
- 16. The ribbon of claim 12 including a plurality of said peripherally incomplete cut lines spaced apart longitudinally along the ribbon element and defining a plurality of said decorative design elements.
