Claims
- 1. A shunt positioning tool for installation and manipulation of a surgical shunt within a fluid-carrying vessel, comprising:a first elongate arm member having a distal end and a proximal end, wherein said distal end is configured having a shape to securely engage a central portion of said surgical shunt; a second elongate arm member, wherein said second arm member is substantially a mirror image of said first elongate arm member, said first and second arm members pivotably fixed relative to each other at a point proximal said distal ends of said first and second arm members; a first wire guide fixed to said first elongate arm member, wherein said wire guide is configured to redirect distal movement of a stylet inserted therethrough into substantially lateral movement.
- 2. The device of claim 1 further including a second wire guide fixed to said second elongate arm member wherein said second wire guide is substantially a reversed mirror image of said first wire guide.
- 3. The device of claim 1 wherein said first and second elongate arm members are pivotably fixed relative to each other at said proximal ends of said first and second arm members.
- 4. The device of claim 1 further including locking means for holding said first and second elongate arm members in a closed position.
- 5. The device of claim 4, wherein said locking means comprises a ring slidably disposed around said first and second elongate arm members.
- 6. The device of claim 1, wherein said first and second elongate arm members are slidable relative to each other from a first open position to a second closed position.
- 7. A shunt positioning tool for installation and manipulation of a surgical shunt within a fluid-carrying vessel, comprising:a first elongate arm member having a distal end and a proximal end, wherein said distal end has a shape configured to securely engage a central portion of said surgical shunt; a second elongate arm member, wherein said second arm member is substantially a mirror image of said first elongate arm member, said first and second arm members pivotably fixed relative to each other at a point proximal said distal ends of said first and second arm members; and a wire guide adapted to guide a wire into said surgical shunt, said wire guide being configured to evenly translate distal movement of said wire into lateral movement of said wire to cause axial stretching and contraction of said surgical shunt.
- 8. The shunt positioning tool of claim 7, wherein said wire guide comprises a first wire guide fixed to said first elongate arm member.
- 9. The shunt positioning tool of claim 8, wherein said wire guide further comprises a second wire guide fixed to said second elongate arm member wherein said second wire guide is substantially a reversed mirror image of said first wire guide.
- 10. The device of claim 7 wherein said first and second elongate arm members are pivotably fixed relative to each other at said proximal ends of said first and second arm members.
- 11. The device of claim 7 further including locking means for holding said first and second elongate arm members in a closed position.
- 12. The device of claim 11, wherein said locking means comprises a ring slidably disposed around said first and second elongate arm members.
- 13. The device of claim 7, wherein said first and second elongate arm members are slidable relative to each other from a first open position to a second closed position.
