Claims
- 1. A method of forming a de-icing and anti-icing composition which comprises:
(a) providing an aqueous solution which contains a carbohydrate, chloride salt, and phytic acid and its salts and (b) applying said aqueous solution to a source of particulate material selected from the group consisting of salt, sand and aggregates and mixtures thereof.
- 2. The method of claim 1 in which the carbohydrates, chloride salts and phytic acid in said aqueous solution are present in the following concentration:
- 3. The method of claim 1 in which the chloride salt is at least one selected from the group consisting of sodium chloride, magnesium chloride and calcium chloride.
- 4. The method of claim 2 which further includes a thickener in a concentration of about 0.15 to 10% by wt.
- 5. The method of claim 1 where said carbohydrate has a molecular weight in the range of about 180 to 1500, and is at least one selected from the group consisting of glucose, fructose and higher saccharides based on glucose and/or fructose and mixtures thereof.
- 6. Applying the coated particulate composition of claim 1 to an outdoor surface.
- 7. A method of forming a de-icing and anti-icing composition which comprises:
(a) providing an aqueous solution which contains 3 to 60 wt % of a carbohydrate, 5-35 wt % chloride salt, and 0.5 to 5.0 wt % phytic acid and its salts, (b) applying said aqueous solution to a source of particulate material selected from the group consisting of rock salt, sand and aggregates and mixtures thereof whereby said aqueous solution forms a coating on said particulates.
- 8. The method of claim 7 in which the chloride salt is at least one selected from the group consisting of sodium chloride, magnesium chloride and calcium chloride.
- 9. The method of claim 7 which further includes a thickener in a concentration of about 0.15 to 10% by wt.
- 10. The method of claim 7 where said carbohydrate has a molecular weight in the range of about 180 to 1500, and is at least one selected from the group consisting of glucose, fructose and higher saccharides based on glucose and/or fructose and mixtures thereof.
- 11. Applying the coated particulate composition of claim 7 to an outdoor surface.
- 12. A method of making a de-icing and anti-icing composition which comprises:
(a) providing an aqueous solution which contains a low molecular weight carbohydrate, a chloride salt and an anti-corrosion agent; and (b) applying said aqueous solution to a source of particulates selected from the group consisting of rock salt, sand and aggregates and mixtures thereof whereby said particulate material is coated with said solution.
- 13. The method of claim 12 where said carbohydrate has a molecular weight in the range of about 180 to 1500, and is at least one selected from the group consisting of glucose, fructose and higher saccharides based on glucose and/or fructose and mixtures thereof.
- 14. The method of claim 12 in which the anti-corrosion agent is at least one selected from the group consisting of phytic acid, phytin, phytates and mixtures thereof.
- 15. The method of claim 12 in which the treated particulate material is applied to an outdoor surface.
