Claims
- 1. A delivery system for delivering a medicament to a user, said delivery system comprising:a housing; a container holding a medicament; and a key member disposed on one of said housing and said container, and the other of said housing and said container having a passageway; wherein said container is capable of being operably connected to said housing when said key member is shaped to be received in said passageway, and wherein said container is prevented from being operably connected to said housing when said key member is not shaped to be received by said passageway.
- 2. The invention of claim 1 wherein said housing includes a dispenser housing having a longitudinally extending cavity and a well, and wherein said container comprises a valve stem, said container operably connected to said dispenser housing when said valve stem is mounted in said well such that said container can be moved reciprocally longitudinally within said cavity.
- 3. The invention of claim 2 wherein said housing further comprises a module housing disposed in said dispenser housing, wherein one of said key passageway and said key member is formed on said module housing.
- 4. The invention of claim 3 further comprising an indicator disposed in said module housing.
- 5. The invention of claim 4 further comprising an actuator operably connected to said indicator member, and wherein said actuator is operably coupled to said container when said container is operably connected to said dispenser housing.
- 6. The invention of claim 5 wherein said key passageway is formed in an upper surface of said module housing and said actuator extends into said passageway, wherein said key member engages said actuator when received in said passageway.
- 7. The invention of claim 6 wherein said actuator does not extend above said upper surface when disengaged from said key member.
- 8. The invention of claim 1 wherein said key member is disposed on said container and said passageway is formed on said housing.
- 9. The invention of claim 1 wherein said key member is disposed on said housing and said passageway is formed on said container.
- 10. The invention of claim 1 wherein said medicament is dispersed in an aerosol.
- 11. The invention of claim 3 wherein said key passageway is formed in an upper surface of said module housing.
- 12. The invention of claim 1 wherein said passageway comprises a slot.
- 13. The invention of claim 12 wherein said slot is arcuate shaped.
- 14. The invention of claim 12 wherein said slot is circular, and wherein said key member has a circular key portion dimensioned to be received in said circumferential slot.
- 15. The invention of claim 1 wherein said passageway comprises a plurality of concentric circular slots, and wherein said key member comprises a plurality of concentric circular key portions dimensioned to be received in said plurality of slots.
- 16. The invention of claim 1 wherein said key member comprises a base portion having a recess shaped to receive an end of said container and a key portion extending from said base portion, said key portion shaped to be received within said passageway formed in said housing.
- 17. The invention of claim 16 wherein an opening is formed between said base portion and said key portion.
- 18. A delivery system for delivering a medicament to a user, said delivery system comprising:a housing having a longitudinally extending cavity and a well; a container holding a medicament and comprising a reciprocally moveable valve stem, wherein said container is operably connected to said dispenser housing when said valve stem is disposed in said well, wherein said container is reciprocally moveable longitudinally within said cavity; and a key member disposed on one of said housing and said container, and the other of said housing and said container having a passageway, wherein said valve stem is capable of being disposed in said well when said key member is shaped to be received in said passageway, and wherein said valve stem is prevented from being disposed in said well when said key member is not shaped to be received in said passageway.
- 19. The invention of claim 18 wherein said key member is mounted to said container.
- 20. The invention of claim 19 wherein said container has a cylindrical portion, and wherein said key member comprises a base portion having a circumferential wall disposed around said cylindrical portion of said container.
- 21. The invention of claim 18 wherein said housing further comprises an indicator module disposed in said cavity, wherein said indicator module comprises an indicator member and wherein said passageway is formed in said indicator module and said key member is disposed on said container.
- 22. The invention of claim 21 further comprising an actuator operably connected to said indicator member, and wherein said actuator is operably coupled to said container when said container is operably connected to said housing.
- 23. The invention of claim 22 wherein said key passageway is formed in an upper surface of said housing and said actuator extends into said passageway, wherein said key member engages said actuator when received in said passageway.
- 24. The invention of claim 23 wherein said actuator does not extend above said upper surface when disengaged from said key member.
- 25. The invention of claim 24 wherein said passageway comprises a circumferential slot, and wherein said key member has a circular key portion dimensioned to be received in said circumferential slot.
- 26. The invention of claim 18 wherein said passageway comprises a plurality of concentric circular slots, and wherein said key member comprises a plurality of concentric circular key portions dimensioned to be received in said plurality of slots.
- 27. A method of assembling a delivery system for delivering a medicament to a user, the method comprising:providing a housing; providing a container holding a medicament; providing a key member disposed on one of said housing and said container, wherein the other of said housing and said container has a passageway; inserting said key member into said passageway; and operably connecting said container and said housing.
- 28. The invention of claim 27 wherein said housing comprises a dispenser housing having a longitudinally extending cavity and a well, and wherein said container comprises a valve stem, and wherein said operably connecting said container and said housing comprises inserting said container into said cavity and inserting said valve stem into said well.
- 29. The invention of claim 28 further comprising moving said container relative to said dispenser housing in a longitudinal direction and dispensing a dose of said medicament.
- 30. The invention of claim 29 wherein said housing further comprises a module housing disposed in said dispenser housing, wherein one of said key member and said passageway is formed on said module housing.
- 31. The invention of claim 30 further comprising providing an indicator disposed in said module housing.
- 32. The invention of claim 31 further comprising providing an actuator operably connected to said indicator member, and moving said container relative to said dispenser housing and thereby moving said actuator, and moving said indicator with said actuator.
- 33. The invention of claim 30 wherein said key passageway is formed in an upper surface of said module housing and said actuator extends into said passageway, wherein said key member engages said actuator when received in said passageway.
- 34. The invention of claim 33 wherein said actuator does not extend above said upper surface when disengaged from said key member.
- 35. The invention of claim 27 wherein said key member is disposed on said container and said passageway is formed in said housing.
- 36. The invention of claim 35 wherein said key member comprises a base portion having a recess shaped to receive an end of said container and a key portion extending from said base portion, said key portion shaped to be received within said passageway formed in said housing.
- 37. The new apparatus of claim 27 wherein said passageway comprises a slot.
- 38. The new invention of claim 37 wherein said slot is circular, and wherein said key member has a circular key portion dimensioned to be received in said circumferential slot.
- 39. The invention of claim 27 wherein said passageway comprises a plurality of concentric circular slots, and wherein said key member comprises a plurality of concentric circular key portions dimensioned to be received in said plurality of slots.
- 40. A method of assembling a delivery system for delivering a medicament to a user, the method comprising:providing a housing; providing a container holding a medicament; providing a plurality of key members; providing a passageway in one of said housing and said container; selecting one of said plurality of key members with a key portion shaped to be received in said passageway; connecting said selected key member to the other of said housing and said container; inserting said key portion of said selected key member into said passageway; and operably connecting said container and said housing.
- 41. The invention of claim 40 wherein said housing comprises a dispenser housing having a longitudinally extending cavity and a well, and wherein said container comprises a valve stem, and wherein said operably connecting said container and said housing comprises inserting said container into said cavity and inserting said valve stem into said well.
- 42. The invention of claim 41 wherein said housing further comprises a module housing disposed in said dispenser housing, wherein one of said key member and said passageway is formed on said module housing.
- 43. The invention of claim 42 further comprising providing an indicator disposed in said module housing.
- 44. The invention of claim 43 further comprising providing an actuator operably connected to said indicator member, and moving said container relative to said dispenser housing and thereby moving said actuator, and moving said indicator with said actuator.
- 45. The invention of claim 42 wherein said key passageway is formed in an upper surface of said module housing and said actuator extends into said passageway, wherein said key member engages said actuator when received in said passageway.
- 46. The invention of claim 45 wherein said actuator does not extend above said upper surface when disengaged from said key member.
- 47. The invention of claim 41 further comprising moving said container relative to said dispenser housing in a longitudinal direction and dispensing a dose of said medicament.
- 48. The invention of claim 40 wherein said key member is disposed on said container and said passageway is formed in said housing.
- 49. The invention of claim 48 wherein said key member comprises a base portion having a recess shaped to receive an end of said container and a key portion extending from said base portion, said key portion shaped to be received within said passageway formed in said housing.
- 50. The apparatus of claim 40 wherein said passageway comprises a slot.
- 51. The invention of claim 50 wherein said slot is circular, and wherein said key member has a circular key portion dimensioned to be received in said circumferential slot.
- 52. The invention of claim 40 wherein said passageway comprises a plurality of concentric circular slots, and wherein said key member comprises a plurality of concentric circular key portions dimensioned to be received in said plurality of slots.
