Claims
- 1. A dental cream suitable for compatible incorporation into an unlined aluminum container comprising a dental cream vehicle having dispersed or dissolved therein between about 35% to 60% by weight of abrasive which abrasive consists essentially of alumina in excess of calcium carbonate, said calcium carbonate being in amount of at least about 1% by weight of the total dental cream and between about 0.05% to 0.25% by weight of a dissolved or dispersed alkali metal silicate or fumed silica; which calcium carbonate and silicate or fumed silica stabilize said dental cream against unlined aluminum container corrosion caused by the presence of said alumina.
- 2. The dental cream of claim 1 wherein said alumina is hydrated alumina.
- 3. The dental cream of claim 1 containing between about 40% and 52% of abrasive.
- 4. The dental cream of claim 3 containing between about 0.15% and 0.25% of said silicate.
- 5. The dental cream of claim 1 wherein said vehicle comprises between about 20% and 25% by weight of a humectant; between about 0.5and 5% by weight of a gum; and water.
- 6. A packaged dental cream comprising an unlined aluminum tube and contained therein between about 35% and 60% by weight of abrasive, said abrasive consisting essentially of alumina and calcium carbonate, said alumina being present in excess of said calcium carbonate and said calcium carbonate being in an amount of at least 1% of the dental cream compositions between about 0.05% and 0.25% of a dissolved or dispersed alkali metal silicate or fumed silica; which calcium carbonate and silicate or fumed silica stabilize said dental cream against unlined aluminum tube corrosion caused by the presence of said alumina.
- 7. A process for preparing a dental cream suitable for compatible incorporation into an unlined aluminum contained comprising dispersing in a dental cream vehicle alumina and also dispersing in said vehicle calcium carbonate and dissolving or dispersing in said vehicle an alkali metal silicate or fumed silica, said calcium carbonate being present in amount of at least 1% by weight up to an amount less than the amount of alumina present the total amount of alumina and calcium carbonate being between about 35% and 60% by weight and the amount of said dissolved or dispersed silicate being between about 0.05% and 0.25% by weight; wherein said calcium carbonate and silicate or fumed silica stabilizes said dental cream against unlined aluminum container corrosion caused by the presence of said alumina.
- 8. The process of preparing a packaged dental cream wherein the dental cream prepared in accordance with claim 7 is incorporated into an unlined aluminum tube and said dental cream contains at least about 2% by weight of calcium carbonate.
