Claims
- 1. A sharpening device for accurately sharpening chiral blades of a dental instrument, the device comprising:
- housing means for holding a rotatable sharpening stone;
- dental instrument holding means, operatively connected to said housing means, for securing at least one of the chiral blades in a predetermined position;
- positioning guide means, operatively coupled to said housing, and having empirically determined indicia thereon representing a tangential position between the at least one chiral blade and said positioning guide means to facilitate repetitive positioning of said at least one of the chiral blades in said predetermined position;
- said dental instrument holding means being pivotal for moving the at least one chiral blade between said indicia on said positioning guide means and said rotatable sharpening stone to facilitate placing of the at least one chiral blade on the empirically determined indicia to position the at least one chiral blade, and for subsequently moving the positioned chiral blade in desired contact with said sharpening stone.
- 2. The device of claim 1 wherein said positioning guide means includes indicia thereon such that at least a portion of the indicia is a mirror image of other indicia thereon wherein some indicia is used to position said at least one of the chiral blades of the dental instrument, and other indicia is used to position a second chiral blade of the dental instrument.
- 3. The device of claim 2 wherein said dental instrument holding means includes a first instrument arm for moving the at least one chiral blade between said positioning guide means and said sharpening stone and a second instrument arm for moving a second chiral blade of the dental instrument between said positioning guide means and said sharpening stone.
- 4. The device of claim 1 wherein said dental instrument holding means is comprised of at least one instrument arm horizontally pivotal and having clamping means at an end thereof for releasably holding said dental instrument in said predetermined position, said clamping means being movable for permitting vertical movement of said dental instrument to facilitate contact of said at least one chiral blade with said indicia and subsequently with said grinding stone.
- 5. A sharpening device for accurately sharpening chiral blades of a dental instrument, the device comprising:
- an instrument arm for holding the dental instrument and for facilitating movement of at least one of the chiral blades of said dental instrument to a rotatable sharpening stone; and
- positioning means, coupled to said instrument arm, for positioning at least one of the chiral blades of the dental instrument in a desired predetermined position, said positioning means including means for matingly engaging with a handle of the dental instrument.
- 6. The device of claim 5 wherein said means for matingly engaging with the handle includes indexing means adapted to matingly engage with the handle in a male/female relationship.
- 7. The device of claim 6 wherein said indexing means is comprised of a protruding member that mates with an indentation in the handle.
- 8. The device of claim 6 wherein the means for matingly engaging with a handle includes an index slotted member having mounting pins that connect to the instrument arm.
