Claims
- 1. A dental composite resin/glass ionomer hybrid restorative composition comprising an addition reaction product of pyromellitic acid dianhydride and glyceroldimethacrylate (PMGDM), a finely divided ion-leachable surface treated fluoroaluminosilicate glass filler coated with a coupling agent and a polymerization initiator system wherein said composition is a two-part anhydrous composition.
- 2. The composition of claim 1 wherein said polymerization initiator system is selected from the group consisting of a chemical cure initiator system, and a chemical cure and light cure initiator system.
- 3. The composition of claim 2 wherein said chemical cure initiator system comprises a peroxide and an amine.
- 4. The composition of claim 2 wherein said light cure initiator system comprises camphoroquinone and a tertiary amine.
- 5. The composition of claim 1 further comprising a component selected from the group consisting of a polymerizable resin having at least one ethylenically unsaturated group, a colloidal silica, a non-reactive filler that is substantially non-ion-leachable, a polymerization inhibitor, a UV stabilizer and combinations thereof.
- 6. The composition of claim 1 wherein said PMGDM is present at a concentration in the range of about 0.1% by weight to about 90% by weight.
- 7. The composition of claim 1 wherein said PMGDM is present at a concentration in the range of about 1% by weight to about 60% by weight.
- 8. The composition of claim 1 wherein said PMGDM is present at a concentration in the range of about 3% by weight to about 30% by weight.
- 9. The composition of claim 1 wherein said filler has a concentration in the range of about 0.5% by weight to about 95% by weight.
- 10. The composition of claim 1 wherein said filler has a concentration in the range of about 5% by weight to about 90% by weight.
- 11. The composition of claim 1 wherein said filler has a concentration in the range of about 40% by weight to about 80% by weight.
- 12. The composition of claim 1 wherein said filler has a mean particle size in the range of about 0.05 .mu.m to about 20 .mu.m.
- 13. The composition of claim 1 wherein said filler has a mean particle size in the range of about 0.1 .mu.m to about 10 .mu.m.
- 14. The composition of claim 1 wherein said filler has a mean particle size in the range of about 0.3 .mu.m to about 5 .mu.m.
- 15. The composition of claim 1 wherein said filler is surface treated with a silane coupling agent.
- 16. The composition of claim 15 wherein said silane coupling agent is y-methacryloyloxypropyltrimethoxysilane.
- 17. The composition of claim 1 for cementing dental restoratives by applying said composition to an adhesive-primed tooth surface.
