Claims
- 1. In a desk having an elevated work surface, the improvement comprising:
a keyboard well for storing a keyboard in a concealed position below a work surface; a well cover comprising a movable section of the work surface, the movable section, at a position adjacent to the keyboard platform; a cover mounting mechanism movably interconnecting the well cover to the desk, such that the well cover can be moved between extended and retracted positions, the movable section being positioned as part of the work surface above the keyboard platform when in its extended position, so as to conceal the keyboard platform, the well cover being positioned at an elevation below the keyboard platform when in its retracted position, thereby making the keyboard platform accessible for use.
- 2. A desk according to claim 1 wherein the work surface comprises a pair of desk sections connected together at a skewed angle to form a corner of the work surface, the keyboard platform being mounted under the corner and oriented so as to be facing outwardly in a direction between the sections of the desk, the movable section of the work surface comprising a front edge that includes the corner between the desk sections.
- 3. A desk according to claim 1 wherein the mounting mechanism includes spaced projections on opposite sides of the well cover that ride in tracks positioned in the desk adjacent the sides of the well cover, the tracks constraining the well cover to movement along a path defined by the track in moving between the extended and retracted positions, the track path guiding the well cover downwardly and rearwardly to a rearward position below the level of the keyboard platform in moving from its extended to its retracted position.
- 4. A desk according to claim 3 wherein there are at least two laterally spaced projections on each side of the movable section, with each projection riding in a track section, the track sections providing vertical support for the projections when the well cover is in its extended position, such that the movable section is supported for use as part of the work surface when the well cover is in its extended position, the tracks having a contour such that the well cover first slides forwardly and then is tipped downwardly and rearwardly and then slides rearwardly under the keyboard platform in moving from its extended to its retracted position.
