Claims
- 1. A desoldering wick dispenser comprising:
a housing; a helically wound tube extending away from the housing; and a coil of desoldering wick in the housing, an end portion of the wick extending outside of the housing and through the tube to protrude beyond the end of the tube.
- 2. A desoldering wick dispenser according to claim 1 wherein the helically wound tube comprises stainless steel wire.
- 3. A desoldering wick dispenser according to claim 1 wherein a major portion of the helically wound tube has coils substantially touching and a minor end portion of the member has coils spaced apart from each other.
- 4. A desoldering wick dispenser according to claim 1 wherein the helically wound tube has left hand turns.
- 5. A desoldering wick dispenser according to claim 1 wherein the coil of desoldering wick is in the form of a spiral with the end portion extending from an inside part of the spiral.
- 6. A desoldering wick dispenser according to claim 1 wherein the housing comprises:
a circular body having an end face tapering outwardly nearer the axis of the housing; a cover opposite to the tapering end face; and a central aperture in the tapering end face; and wherein the tube extends away from the aperture.
- 7. A desoldering wick accorting to claim 6 wherein the coil is in the form of a spiral and is generally in the form of a cone complementary to the tapering end face of the housing.
- 8. A desoldering wick dispenser according to claim 7 wherein the end of the wick extending through the tube is drawn from nearer the center of the coil.
- 9. A desoldering wick dispenser according to claim 7 wherein the included half angle of the cone is in the range of from 45° to 75°.
- 10. A desoldering wick dispenser according to claim 1 wherein the housing comprises an elongated tubular body and the desoldering wick is in the form of a generally helical coil.
- 11. A desoldering wick dispenser according to claim 1 wherein the coil comprises an essentially two dimensional spiral.
- 12. A desoldering wick dispenser according to claim 1 wherein the coil comprises multiple layers, each layer being in the form of a helix of wick.
- 13. A desoldering wick dispenser comprising:
a housing; a central aperture in an end of the housing; a helically wound tube extending away from the aperture; and a coil of desoldering wick in the housing and having an end portion of the wick extending through the tube.
- 14. A desoldering wick dispenser according to claim 13 wherein the helically wound tube comprises stainless steel wire.
- 15. A desoldering wick dispenser according to claim 13 wherein a major portion of the helically wound tube has coils substantially touching and a minor end portion of the tube has coils spaced apart from each other.
- 16. A desoldering wick dispenser according to claim 13 wherein the helically wound member has left hand turns.
- 17. A desoldering wick dispenser according to claim 13 wherein the coil of desoldering wick is in the form of a spiral with the end portion extending from an inside part of the spiral.
- 18. A desoldering wick dispenser according to claim 13 wherein the housing comprises:
a circular body having an end face tapering outwardly nearer the axis of the housing; and a cover opposite to the tapering end face.
- 19. A desoldering wick dispenser according to claim 18 wherein the coil is in the form of a spiral and is generally in the form of a cone complementary to the tapering end face of the housing.
- 20. A desoldering wick dispenser according to claim 19 wherein the included half angle of the cone is in the range of from 45° to 75°.
- 21. A desoldering wick dispenser according to claim 13 wherein the end of the wick extending through the tube is drawn from nearer the center of the coil.
- 22. A desoldering wick dispenser according to claim 13 wherein the housing comprises an elongated tubular body and the desoldering wick is in the form of a generally helical coil.
- 23. A desoldering wick dispenser according to claim 13 wherein the coil comprises multiple layers, each layer being in the form of a helix of wick.
- 24. A desoldering wick dispenser comprising:
a circular housing having an end face tapering outwardly nearer the axis of the housing; a central aperture in the tapering end face; a helically wound tube extending away from the aperture; and a spiral coil of desoldering wick in the housing and having an end portion of the wick extending through the tube.
- 25. A desoldering wick dispenser according to claim 24 wherein the helically wound member comprises stainless steel wire.
- 26. A desoldering wick dispenser according to claim 24 wherein a major portion of the helically wound tube has coils substantially touching and a minor end portion of the tube has coils spaced apart from each other.
- 27. A desoldering wick dispenser according to claim 24 wherein the helically wound tube has left hand turns.
- 28. A desoldering wick dispenser according to claim 24 wherein the coil of desoldering wick is in the form of a spiral with the end portion extending from an inside part of the spiral.
- 29. A desoldering wick dispenser according to claim 24 wherein the coil is in the form of a spiral and is generally in the form of a cone complementary to the tapering end face of the housing.
- 30. A desoldering wick dispenser according to claim 29 wherein the end of the wick extending through the tube is drawn from nearer the center of the coil.
- 31. A desoldering wick dispenser according to claim 29 wherein the included half angle of the cone is in the range of from 45° to 75°.
- 32. A desoldering wick dispenser comprising:
a funnel shaped housing including a helically wound tubular extension from the center of the housing; and a coil of desoldering wick in the housing and having an end portion extending through the tubular extension.
- 33. A desoldering wick dispenser according to claim 32 wherein the helically wound tubular extension comprises stainless steel wire.
- 34. A desoldering wick dispenser according to claim 32 wherein a major portion of the helically wound tubular extension has coils substantially touching and a minor end portion of the tubular extension has coils spaced apart from each other.
- 35. A desoldering wick dispenser according to claim 32 wherein the helically wound tubular extension has left hand turns.
- 36. A desoldering wick dispenser according to claim 32 wherein the housing comprises:
a circular body having an end face tapering outwardly nearer the axis of the housing; and a cover opposite to the tapering end face.
- 37. A desoldering wick dispenser according to claim 36 wherein the coil is in the form of a spiral and is generally in the form of a cone complementary to the tapering end face of the housing.
- 38. A desoldering wick dispenser according to claim 37 wherein the end of the wick extending through the tube is drawn from nearer the center of the coil.
- 39. A desoldering wick dispenser according to claim 37 wherein the included half angle of the cone is in the range of from 45° to 75°.
- 40. A desoldering wick dispenser according to claim 34 wherein the housing comprises an elongated tubular body and the desoldering wick is in the form of a generally helical coil.
- 41. A desoldering wick dispenser according to claim 34 wherein the coil comprises multiple layers, each layer being in the form of a helix of wick.
- 42. A method of removing solder from a surface comprising the steps of:
coiling a desoldering wick; passing an end of the desoldering wick through a tube that is not straight so that the end of the wick extends beyond the end of the tube; melting the solder; and touching the molten solder with the end of the wick extending out of the end of the tube.
- 43. A method according to claim 42 wherein the tube can be elastically bent.
