A desoldering wick dispenser comprising:a housing; a helically wound tube extending away from the housing, wherein a major portion of the helically wound tube has coils substantially touching and a minor end portion of the member has coils spaced apart from each other; and a coil of desoldering wick in the housing, an end portion of the wick extending outside of the housing and through the tube to protrude beyond the end of the tube.
- 10. A desoldering wick dispenser comprising:a housing; a central aperture in an end of the housing; a helically wound tube extending away from the aperture; and a coil of desoldering wick in the housing and having an end portion of the wick extending through the tube.
- 11. A desoldering wick dispenser according to claim 10 wherein the helically wound tube comprises stainless steel wire.
- 12. A desoldering wick dispenser according to claim 10 wherein the coil of desoldering wick is in the form of a spiral with the end portion extending from an inside part of the spiral.
- 13. A desoldering wick dispenser according to claim 10 wherein the housing comprises:a circular body having an end face tapering outwardly nearer the axis of the housing; and a cover opposite to the tapering end face.
- 14. A desoldering wick dispenser according to claim 13 wherein the coil is in the form of a spiral and is generally in the form of a cone complementary to the tapering end face of the housing.
- 15. A desoldering wick dispenser according to claim 14 wherein the included half angle of the cone is in the range of from 45° to 75.
- 16. A desoldering wick dispenser according to claim 10 wherein the end of the wick extending through the tube is drawn from nearer the center of the coil.
- 17. A desoldering wick dispenser comprising:a housing; a central aperture in an end of the housing; a helically wound tube extending away from the aperture, wherein a major portion of the helically wound tube has coils substantially touching and a minor end portion of the tube has coils spaced apart from each other; and a coil of desoldering wick in the housing and having an end portion of the wick extending through the tube.
- 18. A desoldering wick dispenser comprising:a circular housing having an end face tapering outwardly nearer the axis of the housing; a central aperture in the tapering end face; a helically wound tube extending away from the aperture; and a spiral coil of desoldering wick in the housing and having an end portion of the wick extending through the tube.
- 19. A desoldering wick dispenser according to claim 18 wherein the helically wound member comprises stainless steel wire.
- 20. A desoldering wick dispenser according to claim 18 wherein the coil of desoldering wick is in the form of a spiral with the end portion extending from an inside part of the spiral.
- 21. A desoldering wick dispenser according to claim 18 wherein the coil is in the form of a spiral and is generally in the form of a cone complementary to the tapering end face of the housing.
- 22. A desoldering wick dispenser according to claim 21 wherein the end of the wick extending through the tube is drawn from nearer the center of the coil.
- 23. A desoldering wick dispenser according to claim 21 wherein the included half angle of the cone is in the range of from 45° to 75.
- 24. A desoldering wick dispenser comprising:a circular housing having an end face tapering outwardly nearer the axis of the housing; a central aperture in the tapering end face; a helically wound tube extending away from the aperture, wherein a major portion of the helically wound tube has coils substantially touching and a minor end portion of the tube has coils spaced apart from each other; and a spiral coil of desoldering wick in the housing and having an end portion of the wick extending through the tube.
- 25. A method of removing solder from a surface comprising:coiling a desoldering wick; forming a tube of material that can be elastically bent; extending the desoldering wick through the tube when the tube is not straight so that the end of the wick extends beyond the end of the tube; melting the solder; and touching the molten solder with the end of the wick extending out of the end of the tube.
