This patent application generally relates to a club for golf. More particularly it relates to a detachable putter head for an iron club striking surface. Even more particularly it relates to a detachable putter head for a wedge club striking surface.
One aspect of the present patent application is a device for attaching to a wedge striking surface. The device includes a detachable putter head, wherein the detachable putter head includes a putter striking surface and an attaching surface. The attaching surface is for attaching to the wedge striking surface at an angle in the range from 45 to 60 degrees with respect to the putter striking surface.
Another aspect of the present patent application is a golf wedge comprising a wedge club and a detachable putter head. The detachable putter head includes a putter striking surface and an attaching surface. The wedge club includes a wedge striking surface, wherein the attaching surface is for attaching to the wedge striking surface. The attaching surface is at an angle in the range from 45 to 60 degrees with respect to the putter striking surface.
A method of playing golf includes providing a wedge and a detachable putter head, wherein the wedge includes a wedge striking surface. The method further includes attaching the detachable putter head to the wedge striking surface and using the wedge to putt.
The foregoing will be apparent from the following detailed description as illustrated in the accompanying drawings, for clarity not drawn to scale, in which:

A device for attaching to wedge striking surface 20 includes detachable putter head 22, as shown in
In one embodiment the angle is about 55 degrees which allows for use on a range of wedges, as shown in
In the embodiments shown in the figures, detachable putter head 22 includes magnets 30a-30b, as shown in
Wedge striking surface 20 has an area, and attaching surface 26 covers at least 40% of that area when detachable putter head 22 is mounted to wedge striking surface 20.
In one embodiment, detachable putter head 22 includes plastic portion 36, as shown in
In another embodiment, detachable putter head 22 is fabricated entirely of a metal, such as aluminum, stainless steel, brass, titanium, and alloys, as shown in
Wedge 40 has wedge leading edge 42, and detachable putter head 22 includes skid stops 44a, 44b. Skid stops 44a, 44b contact wedge leading edge 42. Two points of contact provide detachable putter head 22 firmly held in position against wedge leading edge 42. Pair of magnets 30c, 30d are located at these points of contact.
A method of playing golf includes providing wedge 40 that includes wedge striking surface 20, attaching detachable putter head 22 to wedge striking surface 20, and then using wedge 40 to putt. In one embodiment a magnet is used for attaching detachable putter head 22 to wedge striking surface 20. A strap, an elastic band, and a clamp can also be used.
While the disclosed methods and systems have been shown and described in connection with illustrated embodiments, various changes may be made therein without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as defined in the appended claims.
