Claims
- 1. A detergent composition comprising an aqueous solution of an alkali metal N-methyltaurate salt of a fatty acid represented by the following formula I:R—COO−H2N+(CH3)—CH2—CH2—SO3−X+wherein R denotes a saturated or unsaturated hydrocarbon group with a carbon number of 7-23, and X denotes an alkali metal, and wherein the concentration of said alkali metal N-methyltaurate salt of a fatty acid in the detergent is at least 50 mole percent based on the total moles of an alkali metal N-methyltaurate salt of a fatty acid and any other alkali metal salt of a fatty acid present in the detergent.
- 2. The detergent composition of claim 1, wherein in the alkali metal N-methyltaurate salt of a fatty acid the alkali metal is selected from the group consisting of sodium, potassium, and lithium.
- 3. The detergent composition of claim 1, wherein said alkali metal N-methyltaurate salt of a fatty acid is formed from lauric acid.
- 4. The detergent composition of claim 1, wherein the aqueous solution consists essentially of the alkali metal N-methyltaurate salt of a fatty acid, and wherein the concentration of said alkali metal N-methyltaurate salt of a fatty acid in the detergent is at least 100 mol % based on the total moles of alkali metal N-methyltaurate salt of a fatty acid and any other alkali metal salt of a fatty acid which may be present in the detergent.
- 5. A detergent composition comprising an aqueous solution of sodium N-methyltaurate laurate and sodium laurate, and wherein the concentration of said sodium N-methyltaurate laurate is at least 50 mol % based on the total moles of sodium N-methyltaurate laurate and sodium laurate in the composition.
- 6. The detergent composition of claim 5, further comprising other surfactants.
- 7. The detergent composition of claim 5, wherein the detergent solution consists essentially of an aqueous solution of sodium N-methyltaurate laurate, and wherein the concentration of said sodium N-methyltaurate laurate constitutes 100 mol % based on the total moles of sodium N-methyltaurate laurate and any other alkali metal salt of a fatty acid which may be present in the composition.
