Claims
- 1. A whipstock for use in a subterranean well, comprising:a main body having an outer surface; a deflecting face portion formed on the main body and having a slope angle to deflect a device separate from the whipstock toward a wellbore wall of the well; and an extension formed on the main body comprising a deflecting face portion such that the diameter of the extension is greater than the diameter of the main body.
- 2. The whipstock of claim 1, wherein the extension about the sloping face portion forms an effective diameter which is substantially equal to the drift diameter of the casing into which it is to be used.
- 3. The whipstock of claim 1, further comprising:centralizers extending out from the main body; and the effective diameter of the whipstock at the centralizers being substantially equal to the effective diameter of the whipstock at the extension.
- 4. The whipstock of claim 1, wherein:the body includes an upper end; and a dove-tail slot and a second slot are formed on the upper end.
- 5. The whipstock of claim 1, wherein:the body include a lower end; and the lower end is connected to an orienting tool.
- 6. The whipstock of claim 1, further comprising a coating applied over at least a portion of the whipstock.
- 7. The whipstock of claim 6, wherein the coating is polymeric material.
- 8. The whipstock of claim 1, further comprising:centralizers extending out from the main body; and a coating applied over at least a portion of the whipstock to be flush with an outer contact surface of the centralizers.
- 9. The whipstock of claim 8, wherein the effective diameter of the whipstock at an outer surface of the coating is substantially the same as the effective diameter of the whipstock at the centralizers.
- 10. The whipstock of claim 9, wherein the effective diameter of the whipstock at the centralizers is substantially equal to the drift diameter of the casing into which it is used.
- 11. The whipstock of claim 1, wherein the device comprises a downhole tool.
- 12. The whipstock of claim 1, wherein the device comprises a string.
- 13. A whipstock usable in a subterranean well, comprising:a main body section extending around a longitudinal axis of the whipstock and having an outer periphery substantially contained within a first radial distance from the longitudinal axis; and an extension attached to the main body section, the extension comprising a sloping face portion, the extension extending beyond a second radial distance greater than the first radial distance.
- 14. The whipstock of claim 13, wherein:the body includes an upper end; and a dove-tail slot and a second slot are formed on the upper end.
- 15. The whipstock of claim 13, wherein:the body include a lower end; and the lower end is connected to an orienting tool.
- 16. The whipstock of claim 13, further comprising a coating applied over at least a portion of the whipstock.
- 17. The whipstock of claim 16, wherein the coating comprises a polymeric material.
- 18. The whipstock of claim 13, further comprising:centralizers extending out from the main body; and a coating applied over at least a portion of the whipstock to be flush with an outer contact surface of the centralizers.
