Claims
- 1. A device for handling a boat gimbal housing, the device comprising:
an upright member having an upper end and a lower end; a cross-member connected to the upright member adjacent the upper end; a counterweight connected to the cross-member; a lift connection location positioned at the cross-member between the counterweight and the upright member; a clamp mounting structure connected to the upright member adjacent the lower end; and a clamp for clamping the gimbal housing, the clamp being connected to the clamp mounting structure and being positioned beneath the cross-member.
- 2. The device of claim 1, further comprising a handle connected to the upright member, the handle extending outwardly from the upright member in a direction opposite from the cross-member.
- 3. The device of claim 1, wherein the clamp member includes a fixed lower clamp member and a moveable upper clamp member.
- 4. The device of claim 3, wherein the upper clamp member includes a pad including a metal component and a cushioning layer.
- 5. The device of claim 3, wherein the lower clamp member includes two spaced-apart pins.
- 6. The device of claim 5, wherein the pins are aligned in a common horizontal plane.
- 7. The device of claim 1, wherein the clamp mounting structure includes a bracket having an upright leg spaced from the upright member, and a cross-leg that extends between the upright leg and the upright member.
- 8. The device of claim 7, wherein the clamp includes an upper clamp member pivotally connected to the upright leg, and a lower clamp member fixedly connected to the upright leg.
- 9. The device of claim 8, wherein the upper clamp member includes first and second ends, and wherein the upright leg is pivotally connected to the upper clamp member at a location between the first and second ends.
- 10. The device of claim 9, further including a cylinder for pivoting the upper clamp member to clamp or unclamp the clamp.
- 11. The device of claim 10, wherein the cylinder is mounted on the cross leg between the upright leg and the upright member, and the cylinder is connected to the upper clamp member at a location adjacent the first end of the upper clamp member.
- 12. The device of claim 11, wherein the upper clamp member includes a clamping pad positioned adjacent the second end of the upper clamp member.
- 13. The device of claim 12, wherein the lower clamping member includes two clamping pins that project outwardly from the upright leg and extend beneath the clamping pad.
- 14. The device of claim 13, wherein the clamping pins are held in spaced-apart relation relative to one another by a spacer member that is fixedly connected to the upright leg.
- 15. A device for handling an article, the device comprising:
an upright member having an upper end and a lower end; a cross-member connected to the upright member adjacent the upper end; a counterweight connected to the cross-member; a lift connection location positioned at the cross-member between the counterweight and the upright member; a clamp mounting structure connected to the upright member adjacent the lower end; and a clamp for clamping the article, the clamp connected to the clamp mounting structure and being positioned beneath the cross-member.
- 16. A method for mounting a gimbal housing to a boat, the method comprising:
providing a clamp including a moveable upper clamp member and a fixed lower clamp member; inserting the fixed lower clamp member within an opening defined by the gimbal housing and then clamping the upper clamp member against a top surface of the gimbal housing; lifting the gimbal housing with a boom and lift assembly connected to the clamp; and connecting the gimbal housing to a transom of the boat while the boom and lift assembly holds the clamped gimbal housing at a desired position relative to the transom.
- 17. The method of claim 16, wherein the lower clamp member includes two spaced-apart pins.
