Claims
- 1. A device for a medical intervention of a body lumen, comprising: a directional balloon positioned in said body lumen.
- 2. The device as set forth in claim 1, wherein said directional balloon inflates in a proximal to distal direction.
- 3. The device as set forth in claim 1, wherein said directional balloon inflates in a distal to proximal direction.
- 4. The device as set forth in claim 1, wherein said directional balloon deflates in a proximal to distal direction.
- 5. The device as set forth in claim 1, wherein said directional balloon deflates in a distal to proximal direction.
- 6. The device as set forth in claim 1, wherein at least a portion of said directional balloon is capable of providing an occlusive seal with said body lumen when said directional balloon is inflated.
- 7. The device as set forth in claim 6, wherein said occlusive seal is positioned distal to a region in said body lumen that requires said medical intervention.
- 8. The device as set forth in claim 1, further comprising a means to provide a milking action of said directional balloon.
- 9. The device as set forth in claim 1, wherein said directional balloon prevents distal embolization.
- 10. The device as set forth in claim 1, wherein said directional balloon is guided into said body lumen by means of a guidewire.
- 11. The device as set forth in claim 1, wherein said directional balloon comprises variable elasticity along its linear axis.
- 12. The device as set forth in claim 1, wherein said directional balloon comprises different shapes.
- 13. The device as set forth in claim 1, wherein said directional balloon comprises at least one non-uniform material.
- 14. The device as set forth in claim 1, wherein said directional balloon comprises different layers of materials.
- 15. The device as set forth in claim 1, wherein said directional balloon comprises different diameters along its linear axis.
- 16. The device as set forth in claim 1, wherein said directional balloon is used to appose a material to the wall of said body lumen.
- 17. The device as set forth in claim 1, wherein said directional balloon is used to manipulate unwanted materials within said body lumen.
- 18. The device as set forth in claim 1, wherein said directional balloon is used to manipulate an inserted device within said body lumen.
- 19. A method for a medical intervention of a body lumen, comprising the step of: using a directional balloon in said body lumen.
- 20. The method as set forth in claim 19, wherein said directional balloon is inflated in a proximal to distal direction.
- 21. The method as set forth in claim 19, wherein said directional balloon is inflated in a distal to proximal direction.
- 22. The method as set forth in claim 19, wherein said directional balloon is deflated in a proximal to distal direction.
- 23. The method as set forth in claim 19, wherein said directional balloon is deflated in a distal to proximal direction.
- 24. The method as set forth in claim 19, wherein said at least a portion of said balloon provides an occlusion seal with said body lumen.
- 25. The method as set forth in claim 19, further comprising the step of providing a milking action of said balloon.
- 26. The method as set forth in claim 19, wherein said balloon is placed across a region that requires said medical intervention.
- 27. The method as set forth in claim 19, further comprising the step of providing a suction means wherein said suction means is capable of providing a distal to a proximal suction to remove unwanted materials during periods of said medical intervention that risks distal embolization.
- 28. The method as set forth in claim 19, further comprising the step of providing a filter means to filter out unwanted materials from said body lumen.
- 29. The method as set forth in claim 19, wherein said directional balloon is used to appose a material to the wall of said body lumen.
- 30. The method as set forth in claim 19, wherein said directional balloon is used to manipulate unwanted materials within said body lumen.
- 31. The method as set forth in claim 19, wherein said directional balloon is used to manipulate an inserted device within said body lumen.
- 32. A suction catheter for use during a medical intervention in a body lumen, comprising: a control means to provide suction in a controlled fashion in said body lumen.
- 33. The suction catheter as set forth in claim 32, wherein suction is provided during periods of said medical intervention that risks distal embolization.
- 34. The suction catheter as set forth in claim 32, wherein suction is provided to remove unwanted materials.
- 35. The suction catheter as set forth in claim 32, further comprising an occlusion means to occlude said body lumen.
- 36. The suction catheter as set forth in claim 32, further comprising an occlusion means to partially occlude said body lumen.
- 37. The suction catheter as set forth in claim 32, further comprising a filter means to filter unwanted materials.
- 38. The suction catheter as set forth in claim 32, wherein said control means comprises a voice recognition system, a hand or feet operated device, or a touch-screen device.
- 39. The suction catheter as set forth in claim 32, wherein said control means is an automated control means.
- 40. A method for use during a medical intervention in a body lumen, comprising the steps of: controlling a suction means to provide suction in a controlled fashion in said body lumen.
- 41. The method as set forth in claim 40, wherein said suction is provided while advancing a guidewire across a region in said body lumen that requires said medical intervention.
- 42. The method as set forth in claim 40, wherein said suction is terminated while loading a directional balloon in said body lumen proximal to a region that requires said medical intervention.
- 43. The method as set forth in claim 40, wherein said suction is provided starting before a directional balloon crosses a region in said body lumen that requires said medical intervention.
- 44. The method as set forth in claim 40, wherein said suction is provided while inflating a directional balloon across a region in said body lumen that requires said medical intervention.
- 45. The method as set forth in claim 40, wherein said suction is provided during a milking action of a directional balloon wherein said directional balloon is placed across a region in said body lumen that requires said medical intervention.
- 46. The method as set forth in claim 40, wherein said suction is provided while a directional balloon is cleared from a region in said body lumen that requires said medical intervention.
- 47. The method as set forth in claim 40, wherein said suction is terminated while unloading a directional balloon from a region that required said medical intervention.
- 48. The method as set forth in claim 40, wherein said suction is provided while advancing a material across a region in said body lumen that requires said medical intervention.
- 49. The method as set forth in claim 40, wherein said suction is provided while apposing a material against the wall of said body lumen across a region in said body lumen that requires medical intervention and terminating said suction when said material has been apposed across said region in said body lumen that requires said medical intervention.
- 50. A method of apposing a material to a region in a body lumen that requires a medical intervention, comprising the steps of:
(a) placing a material across said region that requires said medical intervention; (b) inserting a directional balloon, wherein at least a portion of said balloon apposes said material to the wall of said body lumen.
- 51. The method as set forth in claim 50, wherein said directional balloon is inflated in a proximal to distal direction.
- 52. The method as set forth in claim 50, wherein said directional balloon is inflated in a distal to proximal direction.
- 53. The method as set forth in claim 50, wherein said directional balloon is deflated in a proximal to distal direction.
- 54. The method as set forth in claim 50, wherein said directional balloon is deflated in a distal to proximal direction.
- 55. The method as set forth in claim 50, further comprising the step of providing a milking action of said directional balloon.
- 56. The method as set forth in claim 50, further comprising the step of providing a milking action of said directional balloon, wherein said milking action apposes said material to the wall of said body lumen.
- 57. The method as set forth in claim 50, further comprising the step of providing a suction means to remove unwanted materials, wherein said suction means is capable of providing a distal to a proximal suction proximal of said directional balloon during periods of said medical intervention that risk distal embolization.
- 58. The method as set forth in claim 50, further comprising the step of providing a filter means to filter out unwanted materials from said body lumen.
