Claims
- 1. A plug member for sealing an incision formed in the body of a patient wherein the incision extends from the skin of the patient through the wall of a blood vessel and into the lumen of the blood vessel of the patient, comprising
- an elongate body having distal and proximal end portions, said body being formed from a bioabsorbable material in the form of a mass of loose fibers oriented randomly with respect to one another.
- 2. The plug member as claimed in claim 1, wherein said bioabsorbable material includes a hemostatic material.
- 3. The plug member as claimed in claim 2, wherein said hemostatic material consists essentially of collagen.
- 4. A plug member for sealing an incision formed in the body of a patient wherein the incision extends from the skin of the patient through the wall of a blood vessel and into the lumen of the blood vessel of the patient, comprising
- an elongate body having distal and proximal end portions, said body being formed from a bioabsorbable material in the form of a mass having loose fibers oriented randomly with respect to one another at one of said end portions and more densely packed fibers at another of said end portions.
- 5. The plug member as claimed in claim 4, wherein said bioabsorbable material includes a hemostatic material.
- 6. The plug member as claimed in claim 5, wherein said hemostatic material consists essentially of collagen.
- 7. A plug member for sealing an incision formed in the body of a patient wherein the incision extends from the skin of the patient through the wall of a blood vessel and into the lumen of the blood vessel of the patient, comprising
- an elongate body having distal and proximal end portions, said body being formed from a bioabsorbable material in the form of a mass of a densely packed material and having a membrane of a hemostatic material disposed on one of said end portions.
- 8. The plug member as claimed in claim 7, wherein said bioabsorbable material includes a hemostatic material.
- 9. The plug member as claimed in claim 8, wherein said bioabsorbable material consists essentially of collagen.
