Claims
- 1. A method of making a combustion engine camshaft assembly comprising:providing a plurality of hollow cam members with respective cam member through passages, inserting a hollow camshaft through the cam member through passage and positioning the cam members at predetermined positions spaced from one another along the hollow camshaft, said hollow camshaft has respective first and second oppositely facing ends, inserting a first lance component into the hollow camshaft from the first end thereof, inserting a second lance component into the hollow camshaft from the second end thereof, said first and second lance components exhibiting facing ends which form a first high pressure fluid passage space applying high pressure fluid to the first high pressure space by way of an axial borehole in at least one of the lance components to locally expand the hollow camshaft to form a pressure fit with a first said hollow cam member, moving the lance components to different axial positions in the hollow camshaft to form a second high pressure fluid passage space, and applying high pressure fluid to the second high pressure fluid passage space by way of the axial borehole, to locally expand the hollow camshaft to form a pressure fit with a second of said hollow cam members.
- 2. A method according to claim 1, wherein each lance component carries a sealing for sealing the respective high pressure spaces with respect to annular spaces between the lance components and the hollow camshaft.
- 3. A method according to claim 2, wherein portions of said axial borehole are disposed in both of the lance components.
