- 5. The device of claim 1, wherein said frame constitutes a blow-pipe device in which said nozzle means is integral with said frame, said blow-pipe device having a substantially circular portion arranged at the edge region of said upper surface adjacent to said transfer roll, said nozzle means comprising a nozzle slot or a series of nozzle holes arranged in said circular portion of said blow-pipe device and oriented to direct the air jets in the direction opposite to the running direction of said felt.
- 6. The device of claim 5, further comprising a guide plate attached to said circular portion extending therefrom in a direction toward said center roll.
- 7. The device of claim 1, further comprising a movable guide roll arranged between said first press roll and said transfer roll, the web being transferred from said first press roll to said guide roll as an open draw, said guide roll defining a transfer nip with said transfer roll.
- 8. The device of claim 7, wherein said transfer roll comprises a suction zone, said transfer nip being formed at an initial end of said suction zone.
- 9. The device of claim 1, wherein said nozzle means consist of a single nozzle opening from which the air jets are blown.
- 10. The device of claim 1, further comprising a second press nip defined between a separate pair of rolls and arranged after said transfer roll in the running direction of the web, said press felt being carried over said transfer roll and through said second press nip, said press felt having a substantially straight run from said transfer roll to said second press nip.
- 11. The device of claim 10, further comprising a blow device arranged in proximity to an opening outlet nip defined between said transfer roll and said straight run of said felt for lowering the pressure level in said opening outlet nip and promoting the holding of the leader and/or the web of full width on a top face of said press felt as it runs into said press nip.
- 12. The device of claim 10, wherein said air-transfer means are arranged substantially immediately before an initial end of said straight run of said press felt.
- 13. An arrangement in a paper machine for guiding a leader of a paper web and including a source of pressurized air, comprising
- a first press roll around which the leader of the web runs,
- a transfer roll arranged in proximity to said first press roll, an open draw being defined between said first press roll and said transfer roll,
- a press nip arranged after said transfer roll in the running direction of the web,
- a press felt on which the leader of the web is carried over said transfer roll and through said nip, said press felt having a straight run from said transfer roll to said press nip,
- a closing inlet nip defined between said press felt and the leader before the leader is carried on said felt,
- air-transfer means arranged exterior to said transfer roll and between said first press roll and said transfer roll in proximity to said transfer roll for providing a reduced in said closing inlet nip, and
- an opening outlet nip defined between said transfer roll and said straight run,
- said air-transfer means being coupled to the source of air and supplied with pressurized air therefrom and comprising a frame having an upper surface over which the leader runs and nozzle means arranged at an edge region of said upper surface of said frame adjacent to said transfer roll for directing air jets in a direction opposite to a running direction of said transfer roll at a location prior to the carrying of the leader on the felt.
- 14. The arrangement of claim 13, wherein said transfer roll comprises a suction box having a suction zone divided into two compartments by means of a partition wall, a first one of said compartments extending substantially over the width of the leader and a second one of said compartments extending substantially over the remainder of the width of the web.
- 15. The arrangement of claim 13, wherein said frame has a substantially planar guide wall which provides said upper surface of said frame over which the leader runs, and a curved wall connected to a front edge of said guide wall and placed at a distance from said felt running over said transfer roll to thereby form a small gap between said felt and an outer face of said curved wall, an inner face of said curved wall defining in part said nozzle means.
- 16. The arrangement of claim 13, wherein said frame constitutes a blow-pipe device in which said nozzle means is integral with said frame, said blow-pipe device having a substantially circular portion arranged at the edge region of said upper surface adjacent to said transfer roll and a guide plate attached to said circular portion and extending therefrom in a direction toward said center roll, said nozzle means comprising a nozzle slot or a series of nozzle holes arranged in said circular portion of said blow-pipe device and oriented to direct the air jets in the direction opposite to the running direction of said felt.
