Claims
- 1. A device which makes it possible to treat thermally at least one metal wire, the device comprising:
- a pair of heat-transfer plates, means for varying the distance between the plates, means for passing the wire within the pair, each plate having a groove so that the pair of plates forms two grooves facing each other between which the wire passes, the wire between the grooves being directly in contact with a gas which is practically without forced ventilation,
- the characteristics of the grooves, the wire and the gas defining the ratio K by the equation: ##EQU7## Log being the natural logarithm, S being the area of the combination of the two grooves facing each other, this area, expressed in mm.sup.2, corresponding to the section of the grooves in a plane perpendicular to the longitudinal direction of the wire, D.sub.f being the diameter of the wire expressed in millimeters, .lambda. being the thermal conductivity of the gas determined at 600.degree. C. expressed in watt.m.sup.-1..degree.K.sup.-1, K being controlled by the adjustment of the spacing between the plates.
- 2. A device according to claim 1, comprising means for flowing a heat-exchange fluid in contact with at least one plate on the side opposite the wire.
- 3. A device according to claim 1 comprising at least one electric resistor arranged in at least one plate.
- 4. A device according to claim 1 comprising means for varying the distance between the plates as a function of the temperature of the wire.
- 5. An installation comprising at least one device according to claim 1.
- 6. An installation according to claim 5 making it possible to obtain a fine pearlitic structure, comprising:
- (a) means for bringing the wire to and maintaining it at a temperature above the AC3 transformation temperature in order to obtain a homogenous austenite;
- (b) means then cooling the wire from a temperature above the AC3 transformation temperature to a temperature below the AC1 transformation temperature;
- (c) means then effecting a pearlitization treatment at a temperature lower than the AC1 transformation temperature;
- (d) means then cooling the wire to substantially ambient temperature;
- (e) the cooling means before pearlitization and the pearlitization means each having at least one device according to claim 1, wherein there is the relation 5.ltoreq.K.ltoreq.8 upon this cooling and 3.ltoreq.K.ltoreq.6 during the pearlitization treatment.
- 7. An installation according to claim 6, in which the pearlitization means comprise at least four devices according to claim 1 wherein the temperature of the wire, during the pearlitization treatment, does not vary by more than .+-.10.degree. C. from a given temperature.
- 8. An installation according to claim 6 in which the cooling means after pearlitization comprise at least one device according to claim 1 wherein there is the relation 5.ltoreq.K.ltoreq.8 during this cooling.
