Claims
- 1. A hair treating device comprising:
- a tubular barrel having first and second ends, a predetermined cross-sectional configuration and aperture means therethrough;
- a handle portion extending from the first end of the tubular barrel;
- heat and vapor generating means registering with said barrel for generating heat in said barrel and vapor for passage through said aperture means;
- a removable mandrel means for winding hair therearound removably received over said tubular barrel in an operative position thereon, said mandrel means being generally tubular in configuration and having a longitudinal axis, first and second ends, and inner and outer surfaces; and
- vapor passage means extending through said inner and outer surfaces, said heat and vapor generating means being electrically energized; said handle including an electrical switch means for energizing said heat and vapor generating means; and said electrical switch means having safety means connected therewith which is engaged and operated by the first end of the mandrel means when said mandrel means is operatively positioned on said barrel to permit said switch means to energize the heat and vapor generating means, said safety means rendering said switch means incapable of energizing said heat and vapor generating means when said mandrel means is not operatively positioned on said barrel.
- 2. The hair treating device of claim 1 wherein the switch comprises first and second contacts which include spring means to bias the contacts apart and a manually actuated cam for selectively pushing the first contact toward the second contact and wherein the safety means associated with the switch means comprises a slideable rod which, upon being engaged by the mandrel means being operatively positioned on said barrel, pushes the second contact onto engagement with the first contact to complete an electrical connection.
- 3. The hair treating device of claim 2 wherein the rod is biased to project from the handle when the mandrel means is not operatively positioned on said barrel by the same spring means which biases the first and second contacts apart.
