Claims
- 1. A coupling device comprising:
- two parts which are coaxially rotatable relative to one another;
- a friction coupling having friction plates which are alternatively connected to one of said two parts and the other of said two parts, and an actuating device for said friction coupling, said actuating device comprises an annular chamber formed in said one of said two parts and containing a highly viscous fluid, a first rotational member arranged in said annular chamber and drivingly connected to said other of said two parts, and which acts on the highly viscous fluid adhering to it; and
- said actuating device, when said two parts rotate relative to one another, causing an increase in pressure of said highly viscous fluid for the purpose of loading said friction coupling for transmitting torque between said two parts, inside said annular chamber there being provided a second rotational member which is rotatable relative to said one of said two parts to a limited extent to thereby release a short circuit connection between a region of high pressure in said annular chamber and a region of low pressure in said annular chamber, wherein said second rotationally movable member rotates relative to said one of said two parts to release said short circuit connection when the differential speed between said one of said two parts and said other of said two parts exceeds a given differential rotational speed.
- 2. A coupling device according to claim 1, wherein fluid shearing as a function of said differential rotational speed between said two parts causes rotation of said second rotational member relative to said one of said two parts which releases said short circuit connection when said differential rotational speed between two parts exceeds said given differential rotational speed.
- 3. A coupling device according to claim 1, wherein said second rotational member inside said annular chamber is arranged as a pressure build-up and control member which is provided with a circumferentially extending annular groove which is delimited by two ends and closed by said first rotational member, and which forms a shear channel with said first rotational member; part of said annular chamber being delimited by a movable piston, a reservoir with a variable volume formed in said one of said two parts, said reservoir is hydraulically connected to said annular chamber, and which upon relative rotation of said two parts, one end of said shear channel with a lower fluid pressure is connected to the reservoir, and the other end of said shear channel with a higher fluid pressure is connected to said part of the annular chamber delimited by said movable piston, and said pressure build-up and control member is held between two elastically resilient end stops which, when a given differential rotational speed between said two parts is exceeded, as a result of being elastically resilient, ensure further rotation of said pressure build-up and control member which results in said release of said short circuit connection between said region of high pressure in said annular chamber and said region of low pressure in said annular chamber, said region of high pressure and said region of low pressure being said end of the shear channel with the higher fluid pressure and said end of the shear channel with the lower fluid pressure, respectively.
- 4. A coupling device according to claim 3, wherein said end stops are formed by firmly supported pressure springs.
