Claims
- 1. A lavage device comprising:
- a gas-driven reciprocating pump mechanism for pumping pulses of liquid;
- a gas inlet line interconnected to the pump mechanism for driving the pump mechanism;
- a liquid inlet line interconnected to the pump mechanism for supplying liquid to be pumped by the pump mechanism;
- a liquid outlet line from the pump mechanism for carrying the pulses of liquid from the pump mechanism;
- a nozzle interconnected to the liquid outlet line, the nozzle having outlet; and
- a gas outlet line from the pump mechanism for exhausting exhaust gas from the pump mechanism, the gas outlet line interconnected to the nozzle wherein the pulses of liquid pumped through the liquid outlet line by the pump mechanism and the exhaust gas from the pump mechanism exit the lavage device at the outlet of the nozzle.
- 2. The lavage device of claim 1, further comprising an outlet valve in the gas outlet line, and an exhaust port interconnected to the gels outlet line, the outlet valve controlling exhaust gas flow from the exhaust gas outlet line to either the exhaust port or the nozzle.
- 3. The lavage device of claim 2, further comprising an inlet valve in the gas inlet line, and a gas bypass line from the inlet valve to the nozzle, the inlet valve controlling gas flow from the gas inlet line to either the pump mechanism or the nozzle bypassing the pump mechanism.
- 4. The lavage device of claim 3, further comprising:
- a pump body defining the gas bypass line, the exhaust port, the gas inlet line, and the gas outlet line; and
- a moveable valve mounted to the pump body, wherein the outlet valve and the inlet valve are both part of the moveable valve, the moveable valve having three operating positions, a first position directing exhaust gas to the exhaust port, a second position directing exhaust gas to the nozzle, and a third position directing the gas flow to the nozzle bypassing the pump mechanism.
- 5. The lavage device of claim 1, further comprising a valve in the gas inlet line, and a gas bypass line from the valve to the nozzle, the valve controlling gas flow from the gas inlet line to either the pump mechanism or the nozzle bypassing the pump mechanism.
- 6. The lavage device of claim 5, further comprising an additive inlet line connected to the gas bypass line, and an additive source connected to the additive inlet.
- 7. The lavage device of claim 1, further comprising a source of carbon dioxide connected to the gas inlet line.
- 8. A lavage device comprising:
- a gas inlet line;
- a nozzle interconnected to the gas inlet line allowing an exhaust of the gas;
- an additive inlet line interconnected to the gas inlet line for mixing an additive to a gas in the gas inlet line;
- a port in the gas inlet line from the additive inlet line operative between positions to open and close the additive inlet line for connection of the additive inlet line to the gas inlet line, the port in the open position connecting the additive inlet line to the gas inlet line to allow an additive to enter the gas inlet line;
- a pump mechanism for pumping liquid;
- a liquid inlet line to the pump mechanism for supplying liquid to be pumped by the pump mechanism; and
- a liquid outlet line from the pump mechanism to the nozzle.
- 9. The lavage device of claim 8,
- wherein the pump mechanism is a gas-driven reciprocating pump mechanism for pumping pulses of liquid interconnected to the gas inlet line, and wherein the lavage device further comprises a valve in the gas inlet line directing gas either to the pump mechanism or the nozzle.
- 10. A lavage device comprising:
- a gas-driven reciprocating pump mechanism for pumping pulses of liquid;
- a gas inlet line interconnected to the pump mechanism for driving the pump mechanism;
- a liquid inlet line interconnected to the pump mechanism for supplying liquid to be pumped to the pump mechanism;
- a liquid outlet line from the pump mechanism for carrying the pulses of liquid from the pump mechanism;
- a nozzle interconnected to the liquid outlet line;
- an inlet valve in the gas inlet line; and
- a gas bypass line from the inlet valve to the nozzle, the inlet valve controlling gas flow from the gas inlet line to either the pump mechanism or the nozzle bypassing the pump mechanism.
- 11. A lavage device comprising:
- (a) a gas-driven reciprocating pump mechanism for pumping pulses of liquid;
- (b) a gas inlet line interconnected to the pump mechanism for supplying gas for driving the pump mechanism;
- (c) a liquid inlet line interconnected to the pump mechanism for supplying liquid to be pumped by the pump mechanism;
- (d) a delivery outlet line interconnected to the pump mechanism for carrying the pulses of liquid from the pump mechanism;
- (e) a nozzle interconnected to the delivery outlet line, the nozzle having an outlet;
- (f) a gas outlet line from the pump mechanism for exhausting the gas from the pump mechanism, the gas outlet line interconnected to the delivery outlet line;
- (g) an outlet valve in the gas outlet line;
- (h) an exhaust port interconnected to the gas outlet line, the outlet valve controlling the flow of the gas from the gas outlet line to either the exhaust port or the delivery outlet line;
- (i) an inlet valve in the gas inlet line;
- (j) a gas bypass line from the inlet valve to the delivery outlet line, the inlet valve controlling the flow of the gas from the gas inlet line to either the pump mechanism or the delivery outlet line bypassing the pump mechanism; and
- (k) wherein the lavage device is operable in at least three modes;
- (i) a first mode being wherein the inlet valve directs the gas from the gas inlet line to the pump mechanism, and the outlet valve directs the gas from the pump mechanism to the delivery outlet line wherein each pulse of liquid pumped by the pump mechanism is expelled from the nozzle by a pulse of the gas from the pump mechanism whereby both the liquid and the gas exit the lavage device at the nozzle;
- (ii) a second mode being wherein the inlet valve directs the gas from the gas inlet line to the pump mechanism, and the outlet valve directs the gas from the pump mechanism to the exhaust port, whereby the liquid exits the lavage device at the nozzle and the gas exits the lavage device at the exhaust port; and
- (iii) a third mode being wherein the inlet valve directs the gas from the gas inlet line to the delivery outlet line, whereby the gas bypasses the pump mechanism and exits the lavage device at the nozzle, and no liquid is pumped by the pump mechanism.
