Claims
- 1. A device for interconnecting two vessels, said device comprising:
a vessel connection member comprising a fluid communication opening therethrough; and at least one support member associated with said vessel connection member, said at least one support member configured to conform to the configuration of a vessel into which it is positioned by changing in radial and axial directions with respect to said vessel to fix said device in an operative position relative to said vessel.
- 2. The device according to claim 1, wherein said at least one support member is configured to adjust angularly with respect to said vessel connection member.
- 3. The device according to claim 1, wherein said device comprises at least two or more support members.
- 4. The device according to claim 3, wherein at least one support member is attached to one end of said vessel connection member adjacent said opening and at least one other support member is attached to the opposing end of said vessel connection member adjacent said opening.
- 5. The device according to claim 3, wherein a pair of support members is attached at opposing points along an edge of said vessel connection member.
- 6. The device according to claim 1, wherein said at least one support member is a loop or a coil.
- 7. The device according to claim 1, further comprising at least one sealing member associated with at least one of said vessel connection member and said at least one support member, said at least one sealing member configured to form a fluid-tight seal with an inner surface of a vessel into which it is positioned.
- 8. The device according to claim 7, wherein said device comprises two sealing members positioned at opposing ends of said vessel connection member.
- 9. The device according to claim 7, wherein said at least one sealing member is at least one of a flexible flange and an adhesive.
- 10. The device according to claim 9, wherein said at least one sealing member is a flexible flange, said flexible flange comprising a vessel-contacting surface and a lumen-facing surface, wherein, upon implantation of said flexible flange into a vessel, said vessel-contacting surface is adapted to readily conform to and seal with the inner surface of said vessel and wherein the lumen-facing surface is adapted to utilize the internal vessel pressure exerted thereon to form a substantially fluid-tight seal between said vessel-contacting surface and said inner surface of said vessel.
- 11. A device for interconnecting two vessels, said device comprising:
a vessel connection member comprising a fluid communication opening therethrough; at least one support member associated with said vessel connection member, said at least one support member configured to conform to the configuration of a vessel into which it is positioned; and at least one sealing member associated with at least one of said vessel connection member and said at least one support member, said at least one sealing member configured to form a substantially fluid-tight seal with an inner surface of a vessel into which it is positioned.
- 12. The device according to claim 11, wherein said at least one sealing member comprises a vessel-contacting surface and a lumen-facing surface, wherein, upon implantation of said flexible flange into a vessel, said vessel-contacting surface is adapted to readily conform to and seal with the inner surface of said vessel and wherein the lumen-facing surface is adapted to utilize the internal vessel pressure exerted thereon to form said substantially fluid-tight seal.
- 13. The device according to claim 11, wherein said at least one sealing member is at least one of a flexible flange and an adhesive.
- 14. A method of interconnecting two vessels, said method comprising:
providing a device comprising a vessel connection member having a fluid communication opening therethrough and at least one support member associated with said vessel connection member; reducing the size of said at least one support member; inserting said at least one support member into an opening of a first vessel; releasing said at least one support member, wherein said at least one support member conforms to the configuration of said first vessel by changing in radial and axial directions with respect to said first vessel; and inserting said vessel connection member into an opening of a second vessel, whereby said two vessels are interconnected and fluid communication is provided therebetween.
- 15. The method according to claim 14, wherein said device comprises a first support member and a second support member, wherein said first support member and said second support member are positioned at opposing ends of said vessel connection member, said inserting said vessel connection member into an opening of said second vessel further comprising:
reducing the size of said second support member; and releasing said second support member, wherein said second support member conforms to the configuration of said second vessel by changing in radial and axial directions with respect to said second vessel.
- 16. The method according to claim 14, wherein said at least one support member angularly adjusts relative to said vessel connection member.
- 17. The method according to claim 14, wherein said device further comprises at least one sealing member associated with at least one of said vessel connection member and said at least one support member, wherein, upon insertion of said at least one support member into a vessel, said at least one sealing member readily conforms to and seals with an inner surface of said vessel, wherein said at least one sealing member utilizes the internal vessel pressure exerted thereon to form a substantially fluid-tight seal between said at least one sealing member and said inner surface of said vessel.
- 18. A method of interconnecting two vessels to provide fluid communication therebetween, said method comprising:
providing a device comprising a vessel connection member having a fluid communication opening therethrough, at least one support member associated with said vessel connection member and at least one sealing member associated with at least one of said vessel connection member and said at least one support member; reducing the size of said at least one support member and said at least one sealing member; inserting said at least one support member and said at least one sealing member into an opening of a first vessel; releasing said at least one support member and said at least one sealing member, wherein said at least one support member conforms to the configuration of said first vessel and said at least one sealing member forms a substantially fluid-tight seal with an inner surface of said first vessel; inserting said vessel connection member into an opening of a second vessel, whereby said two vessels are interconnected and fluid communication is provided therebetween.
- 19. The method according to claim 18, wherein said at least one support member angularly adjusts relative to said vessel connection member.
- 20. A kit for interconnecting two vessels, said kit comprising:
at least one device according to claim 1; and instructions for using said at least one device for interconnecting two vessels.
- 21. The kit according to claim 20, wherein said kit further comprises one or more delivery devices for delivering said at least one device to a target site.
