Claims
- 1. An isolated polynucleotide segment comprising a polynucleotide sequence or the full complement of the entire length of the polynucleotide sequence, wherein the polynucleotide sequence is identical to SEQ ID NO:1, except that, over the entire length corresponding to SEQ ID NO:1, nn nucleotides are substituted, inserted or deleted, wherein nn satisfies the following expressionnn≦xn−(xn·y) wherein xn is the total number of nucleotides in SEQ ID NO:1, y is at least 0.95, and wherein any non-integer product of xn and y is rounded down to the nearest integer before subtracting the product from xn; and wherein the polynucleotide sequence detects Streptococcus pneumoniae.
- 2. A vector comprising the isolated polynucleotide segment of claim 1.
- 3. An isolated host cell comprising the vector of claim 2.
- 4. The isolated polynucleotide segment of claim 1, wherein y is at least 0.97.
- 5. The isolated polynucleotide segment of claim 1, wherein y is at least 0.98.
- 6. The isolated polynucleotide segment of claim 1, wherein y is at least 0.99.
- 7. An isolated polynucleotide segment comprising a polynucleotide sequence or the full complement of the entire length of the polynucleotide sequence, wherein the polynucleotide sequence comprises SEQ ID NO:1.
- 8. A vector comprising the isolated polynucleotide segment of claim 7.
- 9. An isolated host cell comprising the vector of claim 8.
- 10. A process for producing a polypeptide comprising culturing the host cell of claim 9 under conditions sufficient for the production of the polypeptide, wherein the polypeptide comprises SEQ ID NO:2, and wherein the polypeptide is capable of generating antibodies which detect Streptococcus pneumoniae.
- 11. The isolated polynucleotide segment of claim 7 which encodes a fusion polypeptide, wherein the fusion polypeptide comprises SEQ ID NO:2.
- 12. An isolated polynucleotide segment, comprising a polynucleotide sequence or the full complement of the entire length of the polynucleotide sequence, wherein the polynucleotide sequence hybridizes to the full complement of SEQ ID NO:1, wherein the hybridization conditions include incubation at 42° C. in a solution comprising: 50% formamide, 5×SSC (150 mM NaCl, 15 mM trisodium citrate), 50 mM sodium phosphate (pH7.6), 5×Denhardt's solution, 10% dextran sulfate, and 20 micrograms/ml denatured, sheared salmon sperm DNA, followed by washing in 0.1×SSC at 65° C.; and, wherein the polynucleotide sequence is identical to SEQ ID NO:1, except that, over the entire length corresponding to SEQ ID NO:1, nn nucleotides are substituted, inserted or deleted, wherein nn satisfies the following expressionnn≦xn−(xn·y) wherein xn is the total number of nucleotides in SEQ ID NO:1, y is at least 0.95, and wherein any non-integer product of xn and y is rounded down to the nearest integer before subtracting the product from xn: and wherein the polynucleotide sequence detects Streptococcus pneumoniae.
- 13. The isolated polynucleotide segment of claim 12, wherein y is at least 0.97.
- 14. An isolated polynucleotide segment comprising a polynucleotide sequence, wherein the polynucleotide sequence encodes a polypeptide comprising the amino acid sequence set forth in SEQ ID NO:2.
- 15. A vector comprising the isolated polynucleotide segment of claim 14.
- 16. An isolated host cell comprising the vector of claim 15.
- 17. A process for producing a polypeptide comprising culturing the host cell of claim 16 under conditions sufficient for the production of the polypeptide, wherein the polypeptide comprises SEQ ID NO:2 and wherein the polypeptide is capable of generating antibodies which detect Streptococcus pneumoniae.
- 18. The isolated polynucleotide segment of claim 14 which encodes a fusion polypeptide, wherein the fusion polypeptide comprises SEQ ID NO:2.
- 19. An isolated polynucleotide segment comprising a polynucleotide sequence, wherein the polynucleotide sequence encodes a polypeptide consisting of the amino acid sequence set forth in SEQ ID NO:2.
- 20. A vector comprising the isolated polynucleotide segment of claim 19.
- 21. An isolated host cell comprising the vector of claim 20.
- 22. A process for producing a polypeptide comprising culturing the host cell of claim 21 under conditions sufficient for the production of the polypeptide, wherein the polypeptide consists of SEQ ID NO:2 and wherein the polypeptide is capable of generating antibodies which detect Streptococcus pneumoniae.
- 23. A process for diagnosing a Streptococcal infection in an individual comprising the step of analyzing a tissue of the individual for the presence of a polynucleotide comprising the isolated polynucleotide of claim 1.
- 24. A process for diagnosing a Streptococcal infection in an individual comprising the step of analyzing a tissue of the individual for the presence of a polynucleotide comprising the isolated polynucleotide of claim 12.
