Claims
- 1. A noninvasive method of examining a patient for diabetes mellitus, comprising the steps of:
- A. ascertaining the variations in the intensity of light back-scattered from the cornea of an in vivo eye of each of a plurality of normal persons and deriving measurements therefrom,
- B. relating the derived measurements with the respective ages of the normal persons to obtain norms for persons of various ages,
- C. ascertaining the variations in the intensity of the light back-scattered from the cornea a corresponding measurement therefrom, and
- D. comparing the patient's measurement with the norm for persons of comparable age to the patient.
- 2. The method according to claim 1, wherein the measurements are made from the same layer of the cornea of the in vivo eyes of the patient and the normal persons.
- 3. A noninvasive method of examining a patient for diabetes mellitus, comprising the steps of:
- A. ascertaining the variations in the intensity of light back-scattered from the conjunctiva of the in vivo eye of each of a plurality of normal persons and deriving measurements therefrom,
- B. relating the derived measurements with the respective ages of the normal persons to obtain norms for persons of various ages,
- C. ascertaining the variations in the intensity of light back-scattered from the conjunctiva of the patient's in vivo eye and deriving corresponding measurements therefrom, and
- D. comparing the patient's measurements with the norm for persons of comparable age to the patient.
- 4. A noninvasive method of examining a patient for diabetes mellitus, comprising the steps of:
- A. ascertaining the variations in the intensity of light back-scattered from the retina of the in vivo eye of each of a plurality of normal persons and deriving measurements therefrom,
- B. relating the derived measurements with the respective ages of the normal persons to obtain norms for persons of various ages,
- C. ascertaining the variations in the intensity of light back-scattered from the retina of the patient's in vivo eye and deriving corresponding measurements therefrom, and
- D. comparing the patient's measurements with the norm for persons of comparable age to the patient.

This application is a continuation-in-part of my application Ser. No. 672,717, now U.S. Pat. No. 4,895,159, issued Jan. 23, 1990. That earlier application is a continuation-in-art of my parent patent application Ser. No. 416,654, which was filed on Sept. 10, 1982 and is now abandoned. Before that parent application was abandoned, a divisional patent application Ser. No. 671,520 was filed on Nov. 15, 1984 and became U.S. Pat. No. 4,883,351 issued on Nov. 28, 1989. Applicant incorporates by reference into this application all of the specifications and claims of said earlier application and U.S. Pat. Nos. 4,895,159, 416,654 and 4,883,351.
