Claims
- 1. A method of detecting cancer associated with tumor suppressor lung cancer 1 (TSLC1) in a subject in need thereof, said method comprising contacting a nucleic acid sample of the subject with a reagent that detects the methylation status of the TSLC1 promoter and determining the status as compared with a comparable healthy cell, wherein the difference in methylation status between the sample from the subject and the healthy cell is indicative of cancer in the subject.
- 2. The method of claim 1, wherein the reagent is a restriction endonuclease.
- 3. The method of claim 2, wherein the restriction endonuclease is methylation sensitive.
- 4. A method of detecting cancer or predisposition to cancer in a subject in need thereof, said method comprising contacting nucleic acid of a test cell with a reagent that detects the methylation status of the TSLC1 promoter and detecting a difference in methylation status in the TSLC1 promoter as compared to that of a comparable normal cell, wherein the difference in methylation status between the sample from the subject and the healthy cell is indicative of cancer in the subject; wherein the cancer is lung, liver or pancreatic cancer.
- 5. The method of claim 4, wherein the lung cancer is human non-small cell lung cancer.
- 6. The method of claim 4, wherein the liver cancer is hepatocellular carcinoma.
- 7. The method of claim 4, wherein said detecting determines increased methylation of the TSLC1 promoter in the test cell.
- 8. The method of claim 4, wherein subject has loss of heterozygosity of 11q23 chromosome.
- 9. The method of claim 4, wherein the difference in methylation results in reduced production of TSLC1 in the test cell as compared to the comparable normal cell.
- 10. The method of claim 1, wherein the cancer is lung, liver or pancreatic cancer.
- 11. The method of claim 10, wherein the lung cancer is human non-small cell lung cancer.
- 12. The method of claim 10, wherein the liver cancer is hepatocellular carcinoma.
- 13. The method of claim 10, wherein the liver cancer is hepatocellular carcinoma.
- 14. The method of claim 1 or 4, wherein the methylation status is determined by bisulfite sequencing.
