Abstract
A new Dianthus plant designated ‘KLEDG22448’ particularly distinguished by single, purple-pink flowers with a macule type pattern, entire petal margins, and winter hardy, is disclosed.
Description

Genus and species: Dianthus caryophyllus L.

Variety denomination: ‘KLEDG22448’.

BACKGROUND OF THE NEW PLANT

The present invention comprises a new and distinct variety of Dianthus, botanically known as Dianthus caryophyllus L., and hereinafter referred to by the variety name ‘KLEDG22448’. ‘KLEDG22448’ originated from an open cross pollination from the proprietary female parent ‘DSS-2016-0163’ (unpatented) and an unknown male parent in 2017 between May and August in Stuttgart, Germany.

A plant line was selected in May 2018 in Stuttgart, Germany, and named ‘KLEDG22448’. In June 2018, ‘KLEDG22448’ was first vegetatively propagated by vegetative cuttings in Stuttgart, Germany. ‘KLEDG22448’ was found to reproduce true to type in successive generations of asexual propagation in Stuttgart, Germany via vegetative cuttings.

SUMMARY

The following are the most outstanding and distinguishing characteristics of ‘KLEDG22448’ when grown under normal horticultural practices in Stuttgart, Germany.

    • 1. Single, purple-pink flowers with a macule type pattern;
    • 2. Entire petal margins; and
    • 3. Winter hardy.

DESCRIPTION OF THE PHOTOGRAPH

This new Dianthus plant is illustrated by the accompanying photograph of a 12-week-old plant taken in September 2022 and grown indoors in Stuttgart, Germany. The colors shown are as true as can be reasonably obtained by conventional photographic procedures. The photograph is a whole plant photo of ‘KLEDG22448’ and shows the foliage, buds, and flowers.

DESCRIPTION

The following detailed descriptions set forth the distinctive characteristics of ‘KLEDG22448’. The data which define these characteristics were collected from asexual reproductions carried out in Stuttgart, Germany. Data was collected in April 2023 from plants 30 weeks from potting on plants that were potted in October 2022 and grown in a plastic greenhouse. Color references are to The R.H.S. Colour Chart of The Royal Horticultural Society of London (R.H.S.), 5th edition (2007).
