Genus and species: Dianthus caryophyllus.
Variety denominations: ‘KLEDP19289’.
BACKGROUND OF THE NEW PLANT
The present invention comprises a new and distinct variety of Dianthus, botanically known as Dianthus caryophyllus, and hereinafter referred to by the variety name ‘KLEDP19289’. ‘KLEDP19289’ originated from a cross from between the female Dianthus parent ‘DCP-2009-0047’ (unpatented) and the male Dianthus parent ‘DCP-2007-0035’ (unpatented) in The Netherlands in summer 2014.
In September 2015, ‘KLEDP19289’ was first vegetatively propagated by vegetative stem cuttings. ‘KLEDP19289’ was found to reproduce true to type in successive generations of asexual propagation in Stuttgart, Germany via vegetative stem cuttings.
SUMMARY
The following are the most outstanding and distinguishing characteristics of ‘KLEDP19289’ when grown under normal horticultural practices in Latina, Italy and Stuttgart, Germany.
- 1. Salmon-pink double flowers, composed in round, small sprays; and
- 2. An upright habit.
DESCRIPTION OF THE PHOTOGRAPH
This new Dianthus plant is illustrated by the accompanying photograph. The photograph shows the whole plant, including the flowers and foliage and buds. The colors shown are as true as can be reasonably obtained by conventional photographic procedures. The photo is of an 11-week-old plant of ‘KLEDP19289’. The photo was taken in Stuttgart, Germany indoors, in April 2016.
DESCRIPTION OF THE NEW VARIETY
The following detailed descriptions set forth the distinctive characteristics of ‘KLEDP19289’. The data which define these characteristics were collected from asexual reproductions carried out in Latina, Italy. Data was collected in May 2019 on plants that were potted in week 38 of 2018. Color references are to The R.H.S. Colour Chart of The Royal Horticultural Society of London (R.H.S.), 5th edition (2007).
