Claims
- 1. A dual property article comprised of a rim portion, a hub portion, and a web portion between the rim and hub portions, wherein the rim portion has a first set of uniform properties characterized by the presence of an overaged precipitate, and the hub portion has a second set of uniform properties characterized by the presence of a precipitate that is finer than the overaged precipitate in the rim portion, wherein the article is made with a differential heat treatment process comprising the steps of:providing the article formed from a superalloy material; solution heat treating the article in its entirety to an elevated temperature sufficient to solutionize precipitates in the article; heating the rim portion of the article for a sufficient period of time to cause the overaged precipitate to form, while simultaneously maintaining the hub portion of the article at a temperature at which no precipitate forms in the hub portion; then heat treating the article in its entirety so as to cause a precipitate to form throughout the hub portion that is finer than the overaged precipitate formed in the rim portion; whereby the rim portion exhibits enhanced creep and HTFCG resistance due to the presence of the overaged precipitate associated with the first set of uniform properties, and the hub portion exhibits enhanced tensile and low cycle fatigue capabilities due to the presence of only the finer precipitate associated with the second set of uniform properties.
- 2. The article of claim 1, wherein the superalloy material comprises a heat treatable nickel-base superalloy.
- 3. The article of claim 1, wherein the article includes the rim portion comprised of a first nickel-base superalloy and the hub portion comprised of a second nickel-base superalloy, each nickel-base superalloy having a gamma-prime solvus temperature.
- 4. The article of claim 1, wherein the overaged precipitates of the rim portion and the finer precipitates of the hub portion are gamma prime precipitates.
- 5. The article of claim 1, wherein the rim portion comprises both the overaged and the finer precipitates.
- 6. The article of claim 1, wherein the article is a turbine disk of a gas turbine engine.
- 7. The article of claim 1, wherein the hub portion comprises a grain size that is finer than that of the rim portion.
