Claims
- 1. A digital camera, comprising:a zoom control switch arrangement including a zoom in switch and a zoom out switch to effect respective zoom in operations and zoom out operations in both an optical zoom mode of operation and a digital zoom mode of operation; and a zoom control responsive to said zoom in switch to decrease a maximum optical zoom factor by one incremental setting when a digital zoom factor is not equal to a maximum digital zoom factor of Dn to facilitate developing a smooth transition to a next incremental optical digital zoom factor setting; said next incremental optical digital zoom factor setting being an individual optical digital zoom factor in a combined optical digital zoom factor range from a minimum optical digital zoom factor product of Z1D1 to a maximum optical digital zoom factor product of ZtDn.
- 2. A digital camera according to claim 1, wherein said optical zoom mode of operation has an optical zoom factor range from about Zw to about Zt, wherein the maximum optical zoom factor Zt=Zn and wherein the minimum optical zoom factor Zw=Z1; andwherein said digital zoom mode of operation has a digital zoom factor range from a minimum digital zoom factor of about D1 to a maximum digital zoom factor of about Dn.
- 3. A digital camera according to claim 2, wherein said zoom control is further responsive to said zoom out switch when said digital zoom factor is not equal to a minimum digital zoom factor of about D1 to increase a minimum optical zoom factor of about Z1 by one incremental setting to facilitate developing a smooth transition to a next lower optical digital zoom factor setting; andsaid next lower optical digital zoom factor setting being another individual optical digital zoom factor in said combined optical digital zoom factor range.
- 4. A digital camera according to claim 3, wherein activation of said zoom in switch facilitating the generation of a zoom in control signal for changing a current optical digital zoom factor to a next higher optical digital zoom factor whenever a current digital zoom factor does not equal a maximum digital zoom factor of about Dn.
- 5. A digital camera according to claim 1, wherein said zoom control includes:a primary lens arrangement mounted in a primary light path for facilitating the capture of the object image with optical zoom effects; a motor arrangement for moving the primary lens arrangement along at least a portion of said primary light path for helping to effect the capture of the object image with optical zoom effects; an electrical device disposed within said primary light path for converting light indicative of the object image into a electrical signal indicative of the object image; and a microprocessor responsive to said zoom in control signal and said zoom out control signal and coupled to said motor arrangement and said electrical device for controlling the movement of said primary lens arrangement along at least a portion of said primary light path to effect the smooth transitional steps over the complete range of combined optical digital zoom factors from about Z1D1 to about ZnDn.
- 6. A digital camera according to claim 5, wherein said microprocessor includes:a control program for causing said microprocessor to operate in a predetermined manner in response to said zoom in control signal and said zoom out control signal; said control program for helping to cause said primary lens arrangement to move along said at least a portion of said primary light path to effect the capture of the object image with optical digital zoom effects.
- 7. A digital imaging system comprising:a digital camera having a display for viewing an object image; said digital camera further including: removable storage media means for temporarily storing a captured object image; a printing processing system having a reading device for accepting said removable storage media means and for printing a hardcopy of said captured object image; a zoom control switch arrangement including a zoom in switch and a zoom out switch to effect respective zoom in operations and zoom out operations in both an optical zoom mode of operation and a digital zoom mode of operation; and a zoom control responsive to said zoom in switch to decrease a maximum optical zoom factor by one incremental setting when a digital zoom factor is not equal to a maximum digital zoom factor of about Dn to facilitate developing a smooth transition to a next incremental optical digital zoom factor setting; said next incremental optical digital zoom factor setting being an individual optical digital zoom factor in a combined optical digital zoom factor range from a minimum optical digital zoom factor product of about Z1D1 to a maximum optical digital zoom factor product of about ZtDn.
- 8. A digital camera system according to claim 7, wherein said optical zoom mode of operation has a optical zoom factor range from about Zw to about Zt, wherein the maximum optical zoom factor Zt=Zn and wherein the minimum optical zoom factor Zw=Z1; andwherein said digital zoom mode of operation has a digital zoom factor range from a minimum digital zoom factor of about D1 to a maximum digital zoom factor of about Dn.
- 9. A digital camera system according to claim 6, wherein said zoom control is further responsive to said zoom out switch when said digital zoom factor is not equal to a minimum digital zoom factor of about D1 to increase a minimum optical zoom factor of about Z1 by one incremental setting to facilitate developing a smooth transition to a next lower optical digital zoom factor setting; andsaid next lower optical digital zoom factor setting being another individual optical digital zoom factor in said combined optical digital zoom factor range.
- 10. A digital camera system according to claim 7, wherein activation of said zoom in switch facilitating the generation of a zoom in control signal for changing a current optical digital zoom factor to a next higher optical digital zoom factor whenever a current digital zoom factor does not equal a maximum digital zoom factor of about Dn.
- 11. A digital camera system according to claim 7, wherein said zoom control includes:a primary lens arrangement mounted in a primary light path for facilitating the capture of the object image with optical zoom effects; a motor arrangement for moving the primary lens arrangement along at least a portion of said primary light path for helping to effect the capture of the object image with optical zoom effects; an electrical device disposed within said primary light path for converting light indicative of the object image into a electrical signal indicative of the object image; and a microprocessor responsive to said zoom in control signal and said zoom out control signal and coupled to said motor arrangement and said electrical device for controlling the movement of said primary lens arrangement along at least a portion of said primary light path to effect the smooth transitional steps over the complete range of combined optical digital zoom factors from about Z1D1 to about ZnDn.
- 12. A digital camera system according to claim 11, wherein said microprocessor includes:a control program for causing said microprocessor to operate in a predetermined manner in response to said zoom in control signal and said zoom out control signal; said control program including a look up table to help cause said primary lens arrangement to move along said at least a portion of said primary light path to effect the capture of the object image with optical digital zoom effects.
- 13. A digital camera system according to claim 12, wherein said zoom control includes:a primary lens arrangement mounted in a primary light path for facilitating the capture of the object image with optical zoom effects; a motor arrangement for moving the primary lens arrangement along at least a portion of said primary light path for helping to effect the capture of the object image with optical zoom effects; an electrical device disposed within said primary light path for converting light indicative of the object image into a electrical signal indicative of the object image; and a microprocessor responsive to said zoom in control signal and said zoom out control signal and coupled to said motor arrangement and said electrical device for controlling the movement of said primary lens arrangement along at least a portion of said primary light path to effect the smooth transitional steps over the complete range of combined optical digital zoom factors from about Z1D1 to about ZnDn.
- 14. A method of zooming a digital camera having optical and digital zoom features, comprising:using a zoom control switch arrangement including a zoom in switch and a zoom out switch to effect respective zoom in operations and zoom out operations in both an optical zoom mode of operation and a digital zoom mode of operation; and responding to said zoom in switch to decrease a maximum optical zoom factor by one incremental setting when a digital zoom factor is not equal to a maximum digital zoom factor of about Dn to facilitate developing a smooth transition to a next incremental optical digital zoom factor setting; said next incremental optical digital zoom factor setting being an individual optical digital zoom factor in a combined optical digital zoom factor range from a minimum optical digital zoom factor product of about Z1D1 to a maximum optical digital zoom factor product of about ZtDn.
- 15. A method of zooming a digital camera according to claim 14, wherein said optical zoom mode of operation has a optical zoom factor range from about Zw to about Zt, wherein the maximum optical zoom factor Zt=Zn and wherein the minimum optical zoom factor Zw=Z1; andwherein said digital zoom mode of operation has a digital zoom factor range from a minimum digital zoom factor of about D1 to a maximum digital zoom factor of about Dn.
- 16. A method of zooming a digital camera according to claim 15, further comprising:responding to said zoom out switch when said digital zoom factor is not equal to a minimum digital zoom factor of about D1 to increase a minimum optical zoom factor of about Z1 by one incremental setting to facilitate developing a smooth transition to a next lower optical digital zoom factor setting; and said next lower optical digital zoom factor setting being another individual optical digital zoom factor in said combined optical digital zoom factor range.
- 17. A method of zooming a digital camera according to claim 16, further comprising:activating said zoom in switch; and generating a zoom in control signal for changing a current optical digital zoom factor to a next higher optical digital zoom factor whenever a current digital zoom factor does not equal a maximum digital zoom factor of about Dn.
