Claims
- 1. An engine analyzer for analyzing analog signals produced by the engine, comprising an analog to digital converter for converting the analog signals into digital waveform data signals, a cathode ray tube including a screen defined by a plurality of rows and an electron beam which is swept across said screen along a row in one row after the next, waveform data memory means coupled to said analog to digital converter for receiving and storing the waveform data signals therefrom, alphanumeric data memory means coupled to a source of a alphanumeric data signals for receiving and storing alphanumeric data signals therefrom, readout means for reading out the data signals from said waveform data memory means and said alphanumeric data memory means, waveform data circuit means connected to said waveform data memory means for receiving the waveform data signals read out of said waveform data memory means, alphanumeric data circuit means connected to said alphanumeric data memory means for receiving alphanumeric data signals read out from said alphanumeric data memory means, signal combining means having first and second inputs coupled to said waveform data circuit means and to said alphanumeric data circuit means, respectively, and an output coupled to said cathode ray tube, and responsive to said waveform data signals and said alphanumeric data signals to provide drive signals for said cathode ray tube, monitor means for monitoring the row in which the electron beam is sweeping at an instant of time, comparator means having a signal input coupled to said monitor means and having a reference input, and reference means connected to said reference input to provide for said comparator means a preset reference corresponding to a predetermined row, said comparator means being operative to provide a first control signal when the row in which the electron beam is sweeping is greater than the predetermined row and a second control signal when the row in which the electron beam is sweeping is less than the predetermined row, said waveform data circuit means and said alphanumeric data circuit means being coupled to said comparator means and being responsive to one of the control signals respectively to become enabled and disabled, said waveform data circuit means and said alphanumeric data circuit means being responsive to the other of the control signals respectively to become disabled and enabled, whereby only alphanumeric data is displayed in the vertical portion of said screen corresponding to the one control signal, and only waveform data is displayed in the vertical portion of the screen corresponding to the other control signal.
- 2. The engine analyzer of claim 1, wherein the first control signal enables said alphanumeric data circuit means and disables said waveform data circuit means, and the second control signal disables said alphanumeric data circuit means and enables said waveform data circuit means, whereby only alphanumeric data is displayed in an upper portion of the screen, and only waveform data is displayed in a lower portion of the screen.
- 3. The engine analyzer of claim 1, and further comprising mode select means for placing said engine analyzer in an alphanumeric mode in which only alphanumeric data is displayed on said cathode ray tube, and means responsive to the mode select means to provide a further control signal, said comparator means being coupled to said last-mentioned means and being responsive to the further control signal to cause the one control signal to be generated irrespective of whether the row in which the electron beam is sweeping is less than or greater than the predetermined row.
- 4. The engine analyzer of claim 1, wherein said reference means includes means for programming said comparator means to different preset references corresponding to different predetermined rows.
- 5. An engine analyzer for analyzing analog signals produced by the engine, comprising an analog to digital converter for converting the analog signals into digital waveform data signals, a cathode ray tube including a screen defined by a plurality of rows and an electron beam which is swept across said screen along a row in one row after the next, waveform data memory means coupled to said analog to digital converter for receiving and storing the waveform data signals therefrom waveform data circuit means connected to said waveform data memory means for receiving the waveform data signals therefrom, alphanumeric data memory means coupled to a source of alphanumeric data signals for receiving and storing alphanumeric data signals therefrom, alphanumeric data circuit means connected to said alphanumeric data memory means for receiving the alphanumeric data signals therefrom , signal combining means having first and second inputs coupled to said waveform data circuit means and said alphanumeric data circuit means respectively, and an output coupled to said cathode ray tube, said signal combining means receiving said waveform data signals and said alphanumeric data signals from said waveform data circuit means and said alphanumeric data circuit means and responsively providing drive signals for said cathode ray tube, row count monitor means for monitoring a row count indicative of the row in which the electron beam is sweeping at an instant of time, the row count decreasing from a maximum count as the beam is swept from the top to the bottom of the screen, and comparator means having a signal input coupled to said monitor means and having a reference input, reference means connected to said reference input to provide for said comparator means a preset reference corresponding to a predetermined row count, said comparator means being operative to provide a first control signal when the row in which the electron beam is sweeping greater than the predetermined row and a second control signal when the row in which the electron beam is sweeping is less than the predetermined row, said alphanumeric data circuit means being coupled to said comparator means and being enabled by said first control signal to pass said alphanumeric data signals to said signal combining means when the row in which the beam is sweeping is greater than the predetermined row and to be held disabled when the row in which the row in which is sweeping is equal to or less than the predetermined row, and said waveform data circuit means being coupled to said comparator means and being held disabled by said second control signal as long as the row in which the beam is sweeping is greater than the predetermined row, and being enabled by said second control signal to pass said waveform data signals to said signal combining means when the row in which the beam is sweeping is equal to or less than said predetermined row, whereby only alphanumeric data is displayed in the vertical portion of said screen corresponding to the frist control signal, and only waveform data is displayed in the vertical portion of the screen corresponding to the second control signal.
- 6. An engine analyzer for analyzing analog waveform signals produced by an engine, comprising an analog-to-digital converter for converting the analog signals into digital waveform data signals, a cathode ray tube including a screen defined by a plurality of rows and an electron beam which is swept across said screen along a row in one row after the next, first memory means coupled to said analog-to-digital converter for receiving and storing the waveform data signals therefrom, second memory means coupled to a source of graphic data signals for receiving and storing graphic data signals therefrom, readout means for reading out the data signals stored by said first and second memory means, signal combining means having first and second inputs and an output coupled to said cathode ray tube, waveform data circuit means interposed between an output of said first memory means and said first input of said signal combining means for extending waveform data signals read out of said first memory means to said signal combining means, graphic data circuit means interposed between an output of said second memory means and said second input of said signal combining means for passing signals read out of said second memory means to said signal combining means, said signal combining means being responsive to said waveform data signals and to said graphic data signals to provide drive signals for said cathode ray tube, row count monitor means for monitoring a row count indicative of the row in which the electron beam is sweeping at an instant of time, the row count decreasing from a maximum count as the beam is swept from the top to the bottom of the screen, and comparator means having a signal input coupled to said monitor means and having a reference input, reference means connected to said reference input to provide for said comparator means a preset reference corresponding to a predetermined row count, said comparator means being operative to provide a first control signal when the row in which the electron beam is sweeping is greater than the predetermined row and a second control signal when the row in which the electron beam is sweeping is less than the predetermined row, said waveform data circuit means having a control input connected to said comparator means and being enabled by one of said control signals to pass said waveform data signals to said signal combining means and being held disabled in the absence of said one control signal preventing the passage of waveform data signals to said signal combining means, and said graphic data circuit means having a control input connected to said comparator means and being enabled by the other one of said control signals to pass said graphic data signals to said signal combining means and being held disabled in the absence of said other control signal preventing the passage of graphic data signals to said signal combining means, whereby only waveform data is displayed in the vertical portion of said screen correponding to said one output signal, and said graphic data is dispplayed in the vertical portion of the screen corresponding to said other control signal.
