Claims
- 1. A helical scanning video tape recorder for recording video signals and audio video signals on a magnetic tape and reproducing video signals and audio signals from the magnetic tape, said video tape recorder comprising:
an analog signal reproducing mode in which an FM luminance signal and a down-converted chrominance signal are reproduced from the magnetic tape by a pair of magnetic heads having a first azimuth angle and an FM audio signal is reproduced from a deep layer of the magnetic tape by a pair of magnetic heads having a second azimuth angle; a digital signal reproducing mode in which a digital signal is reproduced from the magnetic tape by a pair of magnetic heads having the second azimuth angle, the digital signal being converted into a signal having a frequency in a frequency band higher than a frequency of said FM audio signal; a recording mode detector which detects a recording mode on the basis of the signal reproduced by said pair of magnetic heads having the second azimuth angle by comparing the output level of the reproduced signal with a predetermined threshold level; and a controller which selects a reproducing mode according to the recording mode detected by said recording mode detector.
- 2. A video tape recorder according to claim 1, further comprising:
a tracking controller which enables an automatic tracking control operation on the basis of the signal reproduced by said pair of magnetic heads having the second azimuth; wherein said recording mode detector operates after said tracking controller has operated.
- 3. A video tape recorder according to claim 1, wherein said recording mode detector includes a band-pass filter which extracts a signal in a frequency band including the frequency of said digital signals from signals reproduced by said pair of magnetic heads having the second azimuth;
an envelope detector which detects an envelope of the signal extracted by said band-pass filter; and a comparator which compares the output level of said envelope detector with the predetermined threshold level.
- 4. A helical scanning video tape recorder for recording video signals and audio signals on a magnetic tape and for reproducing video signals and audio signals from the magnetic tape, said video tape recorder comprising:
an analog signal reproducing unit which reproduces an FM luminance signal and a down-converted chrominance signal from the magnetic tape by a pair of magnetic heads having a first azimuth angle and reproduces an FM audio signal from a deep layer of the magnetic tape by a pair of magnetic heads having a second azimuth angle and outputs a video signal and an audio signal; a digital signal reproducing unit which reproduces a digital signal from the magnetic tape by said pair of magnetic heads having the second azimuth angle, the digital signal being converted into a signal having a frequency in a frequency band higher than a frequency of said FM audio signal, and which converts the digital signal to an analog signal and outputs a video signal and an audio signal; a switching circuit which selects either a video output signal of said analog signal reproducing unit or a video output signal of said digital signal reproducing unit; an on-screen display circuit which one of inserts a character in the video signal selected by said switching circuit and replaces the video signal with a signal of a blue black screen; a recording mode detector which detects a recording mode of a recorded signal in the magnetic tape; and a controller which selects a reproducing mode and controls said switching circuit according to the recording mode detected by said recording mode detector.
- 5. A video tape recorder according to claim 4, wherein said recording mode detector detects a recording mode on the basis of the signal reproduced by said pair of magnetic heads having the second azimuth angle.
- 6. A video tape recorder according to claim 4, wherein said recording mode detector detects a recording mode in accordance with a pitch of control signals recorded on the magnetic tape to indicate a tape speed in which one of the video signals and the audio signals are recorded on the magnetic tape.
- 7. A video tape recording according to claim 4, wherein said recording mode detector detects a recording mode on the basis of the shape of a tape cassette when the tape cassette is loaded into the tape recorder.
- 8. A helical scanning video tape recorder for recording video signals and audio signals on a magnetic tape and for reproducing video signals and audio signals from the magnetic tape, said video tape recorder comprising:
a first receiving unit which receives broadcasting analog signals and which converts the received analog signals into video signals and audio signals; an analog signal recording unit which records the converted analog signals from said second receiving unit on the magnetic tape; a second receiving unit which receives compressed broadcasting digital signals and which converts the received signals into modulated digital signals; a digital signal recording unit which records the modulated digital signals from said first receiving unit on the magnetic tape; a decoding unit which decodes the received digital signal and which converts the decoded signal into an analog video signal and an analog audio signal; a switching circuit which selects either a video signal of said first receiving unit or a video signal of said decoding unit; an on-screen display circuit which inserts a character in the video signal transferred from said switching circuit or replaces the video signal with a signal of a blue black screen; and a controller which selects either said analog signal recording unit or said digital signal recording unit and controls said switching circuit.
- 9. A helical scanning video tape recorder according to claim 8, wherein said controller selects either said analog signal recording unit or said digital signal recording unit on the basis of a shape of a tape cassette when the tape cassette is located in the tape recorder.
- 10. A helical scanning video tape recorder for recording video signals and audio signals on a magnetic tape and for reproducing video signals and audio signals from the magnetic tape, said video tape recorder comprising:
a first receiving unit which receives broadcasting analog signals and which converts the received analog signals into video signals and audio signals; an analog signal recording unit which records the converted analog signals from said second receiving unit on the magnetic tape; a second receiving unit which receives compressed broadcasting digital signals and which converts the received digital signals into modulated digital signals; a digital signal recording unit which records the modulated digital signals from said first receiving unit on the magnetic tape; a decoding unit which decodes the received digital signal and which converts the decoded signals into an analog video signal and an analog audio signal; a switching circuit which transfers selectively either a video signal of said first receiving unit or a video signal of said decoding unit; an output circuit which outputs the video signal transferred from said switching circuit to a monitor; and a controller which selects either said analog signal recording unit or said digital signal recording unit and controls said switching circuit.
- 11. A helical scanning video tape recorder according to claim 10, wherein said controller selects either said analog signal recording unit or said digital signal recording unit on the basis of a shape of a tape cassette when the tape cassette is located in the tape recorder.
- 12. A helical scanning tape recorder for recording audio signals and digital signals on a magnetic tape and for reproducing audio signals and digital signals from the magnetic tape using a rotary head, said tape recorder comprising:
a pair of magnetic heads having a predetermined azimuth angle which reproduces an FM modulated audio signal from the magnetic tape and a modulated digital signal having a frequency in a frequency band higher than a frequency of said FM modulated audio signal; a reproducing head amplifier which amplifies the reproduced output of said pair of magnetic heads in the frequency band including the frequency of said FM modulated audio signal and the frequency of said modulated digital signal; a digital signal processor which demodulates the signals provided by said reproducing head amplifier; a low-pass filter unit which filters a signal provided by said reproducing head amplifier in a frequency band including the frequency of said FM modulated audio signal; and an analog signal processor which demodulates the signals provided by said low-pass filter unit.
